Brown ring formulas: Will ferrous iron really reduce sulphuric acid to hydrogen? Will nitric acid easily disproportinate in aqueous solutions? The explanation to the ring test ist wrong. NO is not oxidized to NO+, but reduced to NO-. The correct product is [Fe(III) (H2O)5 (NO-)]2+ as stated in newer research. Example for a source: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ic1023357.37.120.23.210 (talk) 16:34, 6 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
