Split proposal

Given the growing number of edits in this article that concern Kailaasa Nation rather than Nithyananda, which are also suggestive of an independent notability of the former, I'd like to propose splitting off the "Kailaasa island nation" section to a dedicated article (title to be discussed). This would allow editors to add content free from restrictions imposed by the biographical format required by the present BLP. — kashmīrī TALK 17:09, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

It will become just another venue for a Indians vs Kailasa edit-war and the page will have to additionally be protected from vandalism from people on either side. We seem to be reacting quickly to publish negative news but takes a long time to write something positive. That is the characteristic of a tabloid paper. We should avoid making this page into a tabloid. Correcting and balancing the section on the Controversies is what we should focus on. This proposal seems to step from the new burst last week about incidents that were months or years old. Let us stop making knee jerk reactions and make a sensible, neutral and balanced article. 189.176.22.128 (talk) 16:26, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
I don't think you've addressed the points I raised – (1) independent notability of the organisation/initiative, and (2) BLP policies.
Also, I see no problem with having the page protected if needs be. — kashmīrī TALK 19:52, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
Then let's discuss the title.
Personally the notion of "Kailasa", which does not exist, illustrates the cultic-nature of the subject and the influence of those around him and should be contained in the subject-article. I think Kal Penn said this week on the Daily Show "There is no Kailasa!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m36a0f0_-HE&start=289 (Geoblocked to US)
We should note that multiple features on U.S. TV news have cited the fact that Google has not really helped those in positions of authority to determine that Kailasa does not exist. I think this is a slight against the content of the subject-page in that it has not been obvious to anyone that Kailasa does not exist and is connected to the subject.
We should remember that Indo-Asian News Service have stated that the recent courting of politicians is "part of a disinformation campaign claiming legitimacy for the 'nation' set up by" the subject. This page has failed! Certainly the removal of content has not helped the reading-audience. Nofoolie (talk) 00:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
I don't know (or care) whether "Kailaasa" is established in a legal sense, but it certainly exists as a well-described and oft-reported initiative, probably with a sufficient depth of coverage for a separate article.
Re. duping of politicians, we do have articles about swindlers and fraudsters, I see no problem here. — kashmīrī TALK 20:00, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
It has been regularly reported as not-existing and as being a part of a disinformation campaign.
Given you have reacted previously to criticisms about the editing of Nithyananda and you have lashed out I have concerns about your impartiality. Nofoolie (talk) 14:48, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

  • Support split. They have duped 30 US cities, the UN and others. It is worthy of a split. There was already a need for a redirect of Shrikailasa to the page section. If it continues along its path, it may need to be added to the Micronation list for people that research self-declared, non-recognized countries and the only way it can be, if deemed acceptable by that page's editors, is to have its own page. I'm not advocating for that, but seems a separate page is worthy, still the same.P37307 (talk) 03:12, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Support split. It is a cult with a fake "nation" but there are plenty of fictional topics that have and deserve articles. I think the "nation" and the "man-god" are sufficiently distinct topics to merit separate articles. I know nothing much about this except this WP article, so I am voting on general principles rather than specifics. Also, I agree with P37307 about Micronations. • Support. There's more than enough non-trivial independent reliable source coverage for Kailasa to pass WP:GNG, and it would end the WP:COATRACK problem of more and more Kailasa material being added to (and fought over) in this article. The down-side is that it makes for two instead of one article for watchlisters to keep track of, but I think the drama level should actually decrease.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  11:48, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose It is not a nation. It is just an island in the nation of Ecuador. Someone claiming it as a nation and issuing a fake passport wont make it a nation. Crashed greek (talk) 08:26, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Something like "is recognized internationally as a legitimate nation" has nothing to do with with whether a topic can have a stand-alone article. All that's required is meeting WP:GNG. The issue here is that a bio article is being WP:COATRACKed to hell with material that is not about the bio subject. If the material were simply WP:INDISCRIMINATE trivia about a non-notable subject it could just be removed, but that isn't the case here.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:45, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Support split. Multiple national and international news articles have been published on this topic since 2019. No evidence (image or video) have been provided of existence since its announcement, neither its been able to gather any recognition from India or other countries. However, it has been able to gather both curiosity and controversy from India and abroad therefore it merits its own article, even if it's a scam or PR stunt to gather sympathy. Persecution

Please add:

"Nithyananda and his community was persecuted since March 2, 2010 sarting with a deep fake video leading to multiple assassination attempts against him.[1]

""

Pg 78: "We summarize this with one historical example of the infamous Goa Inquisition authorized by Francis Xavier, which ran for 292 years from 1516 to 1812, with troops sent from Portugal and the persecution faced by Nithyananda Paramashivam in modern times"

From page 81: "All this made Nithyananda Paramashivam and science a target of some camps with power and vested interests. What followed was an unprecedented but well-documented series of events that resulted in numerous assassination attempts. It escalated when on March 2, 2010, a fake and morphed video of His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda was released on a Tamil TV channel. The fabricated video was replayed thousands of times by many TV channels. In a well-orchestrated campaign, the persecution followed by law fare in which multiple legal cases were filed without basis, the press relentlessly churned out misinformation, and attacks on the monks of the Adi-Shaiva order continued unabated. Female monks were molested, and male monks were assaulted. Children studying in the traditional Gurukul were exposed to pornographic material. The relentless systemic assault and continuous assaults on property, people, and programs continued unabated until Nithyananda Paramashivam removed himself from bodily harm."

Pg 81: "Finally, his life itself was threatened where several hired assassins attempted in various ways to brutally kill, poison, or burn alive Nithyananda Paramashivam" Ik.Kaluha (talk) 01:35, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Not a chance. This is the same "spirituality connected to climate change" WP:FRINGE mumbo-jumbo source cited above, which is not reliable for anything but one offshoot of Hinduism's religious beliefs about the environment (if even that; it could well be something written by someone with no current connection to that group). The claims are vague ("some camps with power"? What camps where? What power? "Vested interests"? In what?) If something is "well-documented" then there will be documentation, and there is not. This is like saying "lots of scientific studies show that ...", but there being no scientific studies anywhere that anyone can find. Even one single assassination attempt would be an extraordinary claim requiring extraordinary sourcing. How can anything "escalate" from alleged assassination attempts? The possibly faked video is already covered in our article. The fact that this book refers to him as "His Divine Holiness" and "Paramashivam" (avatar of Paramashiva) clearly indicates it is promotional/worship material. There is no evidence findable anywhere of any persecution of him or anyone connected to him; only a claim he made to the UN, which they did not take seriously, and various claims in bad sources that are obviously written from his own organization's press releases. Same with the attacks on monks claims, etc. This narrative that Nithyananda fled India to escape "bodily harm" instead of prosecution is not supportable with any independent reliable source material of any kind, and all the sources say the opposite. If you keep posting nonsense from this book or anything like it, your comments will likely just be deleted as proselytization/promotion spam.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  06:00, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Taylor Francis books published, edited and reviewed by Taylor and Francis not credible source as per wiki policy? 47.145.224.148 (talk) 16:34, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
The book cited above is a Routledge publication. There is no evidence that Routledge does any kind of peer review - in other words, the publisher in this case could've been Penguin, Puffin, Bloomsbury, or whatever - it doesn't make a difference. The content matters, and the content seems inconsistent with other RSes. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 04:48, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
I don't have the text of the book, but I find it very interesting that 35 of the 199 citations in the book are works produced by Nithyananda himself (making him the most-cited author in the work). And the section on "persecution on his divine holiness" is seemingly cited to "nithyanandatruth dot org" which, if I'm not mistaken, has already been discussed here and deprecated. The book does not appear to be sufficiently independent of the subject. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 05:37, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
In what context has the citation been used in the book? Does it matter if nithyanandatruth dot org is used as along as it has been vetted by independent author and academic publisher meant for academia? Ik.Kaluha (talk) 03:40, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
The use of that source itself proves a lack of independence. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 20:21, 1 February 2025 (UTC)

Revert the edit using abusive language against guidelines on BLP

Admins!! Please revert the latest edit on the page of https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nithyananda calling him an abusive term of conman. It is not civil and against the Wikipedia principles on BLP to use abusive terms. Especially in the main introduction of a person who is followed by millions. Maxobrian (talk) 16:10, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

@SMcCandlish Maxobrian (talk) 16:14, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
The citation specifically says he is a cult leader & mentions fraud charges so "conman" is descriptive, not abusive. As for how many followers he has, that's totally irrelevant to the tone used in Wikipedia, which does not suck up to the powerful. After all Hitler had millions of followers. Claims that those with many followers should get preferential treatment also suggest an editor may have an agenda here other than improving a neutral objective encyclopedia, which is not allowed (see WP:NOTHERE) UrielAcosta (talk) 16:26, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
There is a difference between Wikipedia policies for biographies of dead people and those of living persons. Especially when there is no conviction against a person just going by hearsay and media hype is not in good taste and against guidelines. Wiki editors need to be aware that they can cause great harm to people when they pass judgement (such as referring to someone as a conman or worse) and pretend to be courts instead of clearly indicating in the sentence that their terminology comes from specific untrusted and usually unreliable news sources. 104.255.178.52 (talk) 20:08, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

Request edit on 1 July 2025

  • What I think should be changed:

Remove the term "conman" from the article about Nithyananda.

  • Why it should be changed:

Per Wikipedia's BLP policy (WP:BLPCRIME), "A living person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law." The term "conman" implies criminal conviction without providing evidence of such conviction. Additionally, Interpol has confirmed they have no active notices against Sri Nithyananda Swami and deleted all data concerning him, stating that retention of such data was "not compatible with INTERPOL's obligation to ensure effective cooperation between police authorities within the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights." This is partially reported in public media and demonstrates that international law enforcement does not consider him a fugitive or criminal.

  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

The use of loaded language like "conman" violates Wikipedia's BLP guidelines which state: "Do not label people with contentious labels, loaded language, or terms that lack precision, unless a person is commonly described that way in reliable sources." Per WP:BLPSTYLE, articles should use "clear, direct language and let facts alone do the talking" rather than prejudicial terms.

The media houses are not courts. Especially in dealing with Biography of Living Persons wikipedias own policy dictates using balance and sensitivity. Not just quoting some media houses. 104.255.178.108 (talk) 16:31, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
The above edit by Dahawk04 produces the required balance, and as much sensitivity as can be mustered given the subject's overwhelmingly negative coverage in available source material. There are no reliable, independent sources that are positive about this subject nor contradictory of the other sources' critical observations. Finally, whether sources "are ... courts" is irrelevant. Well, actually worse (for you) than irrelevant: courts' output consists of primary-source records, and we never use that kind of material for analytical or evaluative claims. The only time WP would properly cite an actual court document would be for specific quoted wording from it.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:47, 6 July 2025 (UTC)

Issues on This Page, Considering Apology and Significant Content Revisions by CBC News (A Reliable Secondary Source and the Largest Media Company in Canada)

Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest I am a disciple and follower of Swami Nithyananda. My friend Mrs. Suzanne Davidson had sent a formal complaint to CBC Ombudsman for similar content (as on this wikipedia page) for their July 2023 radio (and web podcast) and article (previously) titled "How a Fake Nation Duped 3 B.C. Cities". Over a period next 10 months there was continuous back and forth with CBC, CBC evaluated all evidences, court orders, documents etc.

Editors of CBC decided to:

  1. Take down their original podcast and issued an apology. ( https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-46-on-the-coast/clip/16091186-correction-story-july-13-2023 ).
  2. Significantly revise the contents of the online article over multiple revisions (atleast 3 versions)

The article's url slug, title and subtitle have been significantly revised in addition to the body.

As disciples and followers, we find content on this wikipedia page deeply hurtful and damages our dignity. The content on the wikipedia gets amplified as it is served through the AI platforms and AI agents, this directly affects how we are perceived. I sincerely request Wikipedia Editors to not ignore the extensive corrections done by CBC - a reliable secondary source from Canada. Please consider my inputs to incorporate relevant and reasonable perspectives in this Wikipedia page.

CBC's Radio Apology (Aug 29, 2024) Transcripts

Source: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-46-on-the-coast/clip/16091186-correction-story-july-13-2023

(emphasis mine) Right now our On the Coast producer Jake Costello is here with me in studio to revisit a story that this program aired July 13th of last year at this time. Thank you Gloria. Last year we ran a story about a group called the United States of Kailasa. At the time the municipalities of Surrey, Victoria and Nanaimo had proclaimed a special day of recognition at the request of the group, but then all three municipalities rescinded that recognition. Our reporting suggested that the United States of Kailasa misled the municipalities. We also reported on allegations before the courts. Unfortunately we went to air before Kailasa responded to these allegations. Their perspective was not presented as part of our reporting. We've removed the audio segment from our radio archives. We have also clarified the online version of the story and added an editor's note to alert readers to significant changes in the text. We apologize for our initial coverage of how the story unfolded and we are sorry for any harm this may have caused. Jake, thanks so much for that.

CBC Editor's Note (May 31, 2024) (as referenced in the radio apology above)

CBC's official correction states (from their current article, emphasis mine):

This story has been updated to clarify the allegations made against Nithyananda and to identify a source for that information. The story has also been updated to add additional context about Kailasa's presence in Canada and to remove descriptions of the actions of the United States of Kailasa for which there was no clear source. An audio segment previously embedded in the story has been removed, because it contained incomplete and imprecise information.

Note that CBC's revision was comprehensive - (1) while they added properly sourced information about Kailasa's Canadian presence, (2) they simultaneously removed content they could not properly source, (3a) they formally apologized (3b) acknowledging the potential harm their publications may have caused.

The exercise of these rights is limited only by the exercise of the rights of other States in accordance with international law.” We asked if CBC would refer to any of the following as fictional nation in any of their articles (i) The Tibetan-Government-in-Exile (Since 1959), (ii) Portugal or Genoa that were occupied during the 18th century and re-established only after the Vienna Congress of 1815 as fictional nation for the period of time that they were annexed by a foreign power, (iii) Poland, Ethiopia, Czechoslovakia, Albania, or Austria which were similarly occupied by foreign powers and re-established only after World War II, (iv) The Sovereign Order of Malta that underwent a permanent loss of their territory, upon Napoleon's invasion in June 1798, (v) The Ukrainian Government-in-Exile (1940s-1991), (vi) The Royal Lao Government-in-Exile (Since 1975); Suzzane provided specific historical documentation, treaties, Sanads of ancient indigenous Hindu nations being revived as KAILASA. Subsequently considering the reasoning presented and documentation provided in the light of their editorial policies, CBC withdrew from refering to KAILASA as a fictional nation.

  2. REMOVE all citations to sources using "fake," "duped," "cons," "scammed" language patterns similar to CBC's retractions, or give more BALANCED presentation mentionoing that some media like CBC retracted such language.
  3. Language audit: Identify and remove loaded terminology similar to CBC retractions

the that allegations are merely a part of religious persecution and this has been presented to the UN
  • What I think should be changed:

Add a sentence in the article clarifying that these allegations are merely part of religious persecution, and this has been presented to the UN.

  • Why it should be changed:

The wikipedia page currently focuses heavily on criminal allegations without mentioning that the subject and devotees/community have characterized these as religious persecution and have formally presented this perspective to international bodies. This additional context would help readers understand that there are competing narratives about the nature of the allegations, consistent with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy.

Please do not dismiss my COI request without reviewing based on blanket skepticism. I do not know Wiki markup and so I took help of LLM. I wrote this in ms-word. Please let me know if I can give a summary or something to help. We have basically given two points, one is the Gujarat court order and their observation that we are a spiritual community and second a CBC apology, to counter the assertion of some wikipedia editors that we are universally labelled as a cult and all media or major media describes as such. Clearly Gujarat high court and CBC are exception. Rest details I have provided in lot of detail above. Kindly help. SurekhaSekar (talk) 16:13, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

Whatever documentation we have, is what we have, if wikipedia editors/admins do not consider our side and only considers the one-sided obviously it will be biased. And this bias harms us a lot, it provokes cyclic media publication copying same one-sided skewed misinformation, which provokes hatred and violence against us. SurekhaSekar (talk) 16:34, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
      • Declined for reasons given above. COI requests need to be concise, and throwing in accusations and ascribing motives is not going to help. Drmies (talk) 16:37, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
      • I'll tell you what actually offends me--it's not so much that someone who perhaps is not an L1 speaker (I'm not an L1 speaker) would use some tool, but that someone who obviously has an interest in some article but has never before committed time to Wikipedia would use AI to explain Wikipedia policy in great detail and careful layout, to someone who's been committing time and energy to the project without having an interest in a particular subject. That's offensive. You're using a tool to preach to someone who, for all you know, may have been writing the very policies you fed into that tool. Drmies (talk) 16:41, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

Sir do you mean we must do unrelated edits in wikipedia ? I understand your passion and commitment to wikipedia, but we are a spiritual community having no interest in wikipedia. But this data (wikipedia page) that is directly fed in LLMs and becomes part of vast public data. Should we redraft and resubmit? Because so far you did not even consider the facts. @Drmies UDHR Article 10, gives each person the right to present one's case effectively and presumption of innocence in criminal matters SurekhaSekar (talk) 16:57, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
This isn't a criminal court, so that is irrelevant. More broadly, Wikipedia's purpose is to reflect the cited sources - if you think that doing that (and the article is indeed doing that) is a violation of the BLP policy you have fundamentally misunderstood that policy. Controversies - Media Defamation

Please add:

"Hansraj Saxena, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sun TV, admitted in a sworn affidavit that the channel had created a morphed video featuring Nithyananda and Ranjitha with the intent of extortion."

Please add:

"In a U.S. court ruling, Kannada news channel Samaya TV was fined $5 million for civil conspiracy and defamation. The court found that the channel had conspired with Vinay Bharadwaj, who was convicted in a separate child molestation case."

Corroborating primary source about Vinay Bharadwaj - "In 2012, the trial court found Bharadwaj guilty of child molestation in the second degree. We affirmed his judgment and sentence on appeal." https://law.justia.com/cases/washington/court-of-appeals-division-i/2016/74013-0.html 47.145.251.166 (talk) 16:17, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

Not done - That would be a complete non-sequitur. It doesn't belong in the opening section, let alone as the third sentence. - and it does not accurately summarize what CBC wrote, either. - MrOllie (talk) 20:10, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
There is a table to compare what was removed by CBC as they were unable to verify. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Nithyananda#Request_for_Rectification_of_BLP Please check it out. CBC removed characterization like "con", "fake", "fictional". It significantly changed the language as well. 47.145.251.166 (talk) 18:26, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
The CBC retraction is already mentioned in the article. It does not belong in the opening sentences. MrOllie (talk) 18:32, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Per WP:NOR. A list of broken links and social media posts is not a usable source for this article. - MrOllie (talk) 22:18, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
The content of the links is verifiable in archive.org before being taken down. CBC Canada instead of taking it down modified it after review and apologized for it. Other media houses globally chose to take it down instead of review, update and apologize. I am trying to bring to the attention of the wiki editors that over 200 such pieces of defamatory content has been deleted. Tn light of this volume of defamatory content being taken down the article has to be reviewed for WP:NPOV adherence and the tone of the article should be dispassionate as well. 47.145.251.166 (talk) 00:41, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
Ok, you brought it to our attention. But there's nothing we can do with this, it isn't anything we would write about in an encyclopedia article. You've made quite a lot of unactionable edit requests, I recommend you take some time to read about Wikipedia policies - such as WP:NOR, WP:RS, and WP:V before you try again. All you're doing right now is wasting your time. - MrOllie (talk) 00:51, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
