Why *That* Obituary?

Why mention an obituary written by a white-supremacist website? What purpose does it serve other than to tarnish Dr. Goodrick-Clarke's reputation by association? I'm removing the reference because there's already an obit in the references, this one from a reputable source (The Times of London).

The offending passage:

"John Morgan of the white supremacist blog Counter-Currents published an obituary.

Hi Mpaniello,

Your reaction seems stronger than anything in the "offending" passage, which is factual and neutrally phrased. I would think this note gives relevant context considering what (and, perhaps more pertinently, who) NGC studied. I removed a reference citing an obituary for NGC in a white-supremacist website because I'm pretty sure it doesn't pass muster as a reputable source and as mentioned in my first post, there's already an obit from the Times of London. Enchanted City: Arthur Machen and Locality: Scenes from his Early London Years

This is some kind of work attributed to him. It was formerly present on this article before I expanded and revamped it. I removed it as I could find no RS that refer to it in the many listings of his books, and on his own academic page he did not list it as one of his publications.

However, it is mentioned in this obituary , which calls it a book: "An entirely different type of book was his Enchanted City—Arthur Machen and Locality: Scenes from His Early London Years, 1880-85 (1987), reflecting his fascination with topography and history laden places." So, book right? The isbn linked to it on the article was not indexed in any library index, but did appear on Amazon . This gives a publisher as "Caermaen P[ress? publishing?]" Searching this, it is mentioned by this blogspot, who mentions this is his publisher. He says this was a "ghost title" that was planned but did not get printed. But then why is it on Amazon, and included in this book index???? Worldcat indexes something by this title, but an academic article that appeared in the Durham University Journal in 1995, several years later . PARAKANYAA (talk) 05:05, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
