I removed a claim that Navy Pier was the #1 tourist attraction in Illinois. The claim linked to a site maintained by "Crain's Chicago Business," but a check of the reference showed that Crain's had, as of 8/8/06, revised their figures; they now say that the Emopress Joliet Casino is the top tourist attraction in greater Chicago, with Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo being the largest publicly-operated attraction. Origin of name "Navy Pier"

According to this article, the site was renamed Navy Pier after World War II. The "Encyclopedia of Chicago" website contradicts this, stating that the pier was renamed in 1927 to honor WWI navy veterans. (http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/875.html)

I don't see any problem with changing the article, since the current statement is completely unsourced. I may do it myself in the coming days, but honestly I'd rather do it along with a partial rewrite which I feel this article may need. Also note, the specific information from the Chicago History Encyclopedia article is supposed to come from this book:

Destiny of Navy Pier section

This entire section (added April 29, 2008), which does contain useful information about the history of Navy Pier, seems lifted from a newspaper editorial or magazine article and should probably be rewritten. The current version is not NPOV. --Almitydave (talk) 19:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it's really really REALLY bad. I noticed that it was added all at once by a single anon editor (diff). Getting ahold of the references to (what I assume is) the Tribune is extremely difficult. I'm an inch away from nixing the entire section because its POV slant is so blatant; clear violation of WP:NOTSOAPBOX and WP:SYN. —/Mendaliv/^2¢/_Δ's/ 17:18, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

In fact... following a closer reading I've removed the entire section. As written it is blatant synthesis and is written in a strong, derisive tone that is entirely inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Pier dimensions

Hi, Just came to the article to find out that there are no other measurements apart from how long it is: 3,300-foot (1,010 m). No width, height above mean sea level (lake in this case), etc. Maybe someone can find this and update it.
