Fork out "List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection"?

Related to the above discussion, I wonder how other editors feel about forking the current "Collection" section out into List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection? I find the current article a bit long, and I think separating out this content will allow editors to improve the flow and focus of the parent article, and also work on creating a quality list of the individual works within the collection. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

I was not that happy about including any works beyond the two (or three) specifically donated by the states. However I believe we need to keep this title, National Statuary Hall Collection for this list and do something else with the other works. Carptrash (talk) 16:04, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
I think splitting the detailed list out into its own article definitely makes sense, with such a long list of items. That would allow the main article to focus on the history and characteristics of the collection as a whole.-Bryanrutherford0 (talk) 16:13, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
@Bryanrutherford0: I could not agree more. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:15, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Two thumbs (all I've got) up for going to the List format. Carptrash (talk) 20:21, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

@Bryanrutherford0 and Carptrash:  Done I went ahead and created List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection by forking out the "State Gifts" section. I suppose the question now is, should this new list include all sculptures under the control of the Architect of the Capitol? Meaning, should we also move over the "Other statues of people" and "Allegorical or mythical sculptures" sections? I'm not entirely sure about the differences between "National Statuary Hall Collection" and "Architect of the Capitol". ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:32, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Off the top of my head I'd say that the NSHC is just 100 statues (I think we should retain the ones that get kicked out) and who knows, maybe DC and Puerto Rico get some, and that the "Architect of the Capitol" collection is the figure on the dome, the Columbus Doors, the House & Senate pediments, a bunch of busts of Vice Presidents, and various other stuff. I have no problem including them in this list. Purists might disagree, but I am a "close enough for rock & roll" kind of a guy. Carptrash (talk) 21:22, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Edmund Kirby Smith

Seems the sculpture of Edmund Kirby Smith is being replaced, so there's possibly another article to add to the list. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:30, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Although the list of List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection is long, I don't see a reason it should be a separate article rather than a section of this page. Czrisher (talk) 16:08, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Czrisher, I disagree and prefer to keep the list. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:12, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Disagree as well. The list article is a quality list, including well-put-together tables and images, of the exhibited sculptures. Randy Kryn (talk) 18:17, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Another Believer, Randy Kryn, why not make the list a part of this article? Why keep them separate? -- Pemilligan (talk) 18:50, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Pemilligan, The list is long and has over 100 entries. The parent article should be about the collection in general, while the list should be kept to display the collection and provide links to individual statues, IMO. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:53, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

@Bryanrutherford0 and Carptrash: You two participated in the fork discussion above. Care to share any thoughts here? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:54, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

They should be kept separate. The article created by joining the two would be too unwieldy. Carptrash (talk) 16:07, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
I'm struggling to find any real guidance in WP:MoS on how to decide between embedded and stand-alone lists. Here's my basic reasoning: embed any list that is not long enough to make up a stand-alone list article, and split off any list long enough to be its own article (and therefore too long to comfortably include within a text article). List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection falls in the second category, in my view, and I support the status quo (keeping them split). -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:10, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Update: I've removed the merge tags from both articles, per this discussion and the fork discussion above. There is clearly not a consensus to merge these pages at this time. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:22, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Additional homework: other works in the collection

Can we start creating a list of missing articles for removed state statues and other works in the collection? @Carptrash: Pinging in case you're interested, based on one of your comments above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:18, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Yes, always interested, but have been in the hospital recently and am more inclined to take naps than write articles. Carptrash (talk) 21:24, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
