Former player?

Regarding "The final whistle for trans women in football": are all leagues in England affiliated with the FA, to the point where their ban does effectively eliminate her from playing, so the former player label applies? Do her comments in that article allow "former" to be applied? —C.Fred (talk) 03:30, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

The sky is blue…are you really that ignorant of the fact ALL trans women are banned from playing in England and Scotland? Additionally start a discussion on a real thing instead of relying on years old sources and ignoring the blindingly obvious common knowledge. That might be common knowledge to a British trans woman who is interested in football, but it is not to everyone else. Wikipedia caters to everyone in the world. C.Fred seems to be Canadian, and we all know Americans and Canadians have strange tastes in sport, so is probably unaware that the answer to the question they posed is that their ban does effectively eliminate her from playing competitively. IMO we should leave aside former at least based on that source. While it does mention the ban and say it was her last game, it's clear it's still a new thing and she didn't seem to clearly know what she was going to do. It is possible, even if perhaps unlikely, that she'll play somewhere not covered by the ban (i.e. outside the UK or whatever parts of the UK are covered by it or maybe even within the UK if there is some form of football she's happy to play which isn't covered by the FA ban). If we had a clearer source that says she's never going to play football again maybe. The stuff the TA kept talking about contracts seems irrelevant OR, it isn't mentioned by the source & it's not clear how wide it will apply or whether it might be voided by the ban (whether by agreement or automatically by law). If there was a decent source which explicitly said Washington cannot play for Y due to her contract then it can be mentioned but OR is always a bad idea and especially so when it's something as complicated as contract law. However I do think there's merit to mention the ban, perhaps something along the lines of 'In 2025 she was playing for the Rushmoor Community Football Club but her career was ended by a ban on trans women playing for FA-affiliated women’s teams from 1 June 2025'.
