Who was Ebu Lubut? There was no Ottoman commander with this title and name during the dates mentioned. Historically, it's impossible for there to have been. The decree cited as a source on the page, in its translation, requests the suppression of a rebellion in an unspecified location. The location is unclear, the seal is illegible, and there is no date. I found Dakin's book and read the relevant sections. First, there's no specific date given as April 13, 1822. It simply says April 1822. Dakin doesn't mention any numbers or commanders' names. Because such commanders, especially someone named "Abu Lubut," don't exist historically.
Another problem is that in this book, which we consider "scientific," Dakin didn't cite any sources when writing this section. Dakin was born in 1907 and wrote his book 151 years after the events he claims happened. To prove Dakin isn't lying, it needs to be corroborated by other sources from that period. Otherwise, it would be overly optimistic to believe that what someone wrote in 1973 about 151 years ago isn't Dakin's personal lies.
