Mr. Clean History

[edit]

I deleted the history in the introduction for two reasons:

1 - I did not see anything in the about page that mentioned or backed any of it up.

2 - Even if it did and I somehow missed it (or more likely there was a younger version of the page that had it), the source follows the 'self-published' source rules, and I would argue that there's reason that the claim is 'unduly self-serving' under the first point of that link.

Fritz Siebel

[edit]

The article on Fritz Siebel describes his role in the creation of Mr. Clean, but Siebel is not mentioned here at all. --130.180.18.14 (talk) 13:17, 17 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Correcting Mr. Clean origin

[edit]

P&G Verification of Origin of Mr. Clean

On September 7, 2022, the “Mr. Clean Team” of Procter & Gamble’s Consumer Care Department, in response to an inquiry about the existing Wikipedia assertion that Mr. Clean’s formula was purchased from an outsider by P&G, stated,

“Thanks for being patient as we looked further into this for you. Mr. Clean was developed completely in house by P&G. It was not an acquisition. Despite the all-purpose nature of many of the powdered laundry detergents at the time, P&G scientists wanted to create products that directly targeted specific cleaning chores. Liquid cleaners were already in our portfolio, and consumers really liked using liquids for cleaning, so creating a liquid hard surface cleaner made a lot of sense. April 1958 was the first Mr. Clean test market, and the national launch occurred in July 1959.”

In response to my disclosure of my direct involvement in the development of Mr. Clean and inquiry regarding correcting the Wikipedia assertion regarding purchase from someone else, the same P&G “Mr. Clean Team” advised me,

“Thanks for getting bac in touch with us. We are unable to pursue this any further, however you can. Wikipedia Is a website that takes user submissions and anyone can change any information on their website. You could change the information on Mr. Clean if you would like to . . . . .

Kind regards,”
