Article Evaluation

[edit]

Which article are you evaluating?

[edit]

Mottled sculpin

Why you have chosen this article to evaluate?

[edit]

I chose this article to evaluate because I enjoy working with sculpin. Mottled sculpin are an integral part of lotic ecosystems, but are often underappreciated by anglers. My preliminary impression of this article is that it contains solid information.

Lead section potentially has an error in consistency. "Spawning takes place during early winter and late spring" is not consistent with the statement "The breeding season for mottled sculpin is during April and May" found in the Life history section. The article could benefit from additional sources as to not lean heavily on existing sources. Source # 15 lacks a publishing year. The conservation section needs to be cited more thoroughly; the first paragraph, the last 3 sentences of the second paragraph, and the last sentence of the last paragraph are not cited. Some filler text is present, such as "one study [found, showed, looked at]." More pictures would be a good addition.

The article has balanced sections. The information presented is in a neutral tone and lacks bias.   AmphibiansAreCuter (talk) 20:16, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
