First jewish governor?

[edit]

As far as I know, David Emanuel was the first jewish governor in a US-state (Georgia, 1801). --Stilfehler 16:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The article says Alexander was the first elected governor of a U.S. state. Emanuel succeeded to office to finish an unexpired term. --Faustus37 22:14, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to the page discussing Washington Bartlett, Bartlett was Jewish and elected and served in 1887, well before 1915. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jazz2y (talkcontribs) 02:47, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
