Request to review remaining Controversies and public image section for neutrality, attribution and due weight

Following the removal of the “Alleged affair” section under Wikipedia’s policy on Biographies of Living Persons, I would like to request a separate review of the remaining “Controversies and public image” section.

This request is not about restoring or reopening the removed material. It concerns the remaining wording in the section and whether it complies with Wikipedia’s policies on Biographies of Living Persons, Neutral Point of View, Undue Weight and Reliable Sources.

In particular, I request editors to review the following points:

1. The repeated use of the political label “Kazzab” may give disproportionate weight to an opposition slogan or partisan criticism. If the term is retained, editors may consider whether it should be condensed, clearly attributed, and placed in proper political context.
2. The phrase describing Muizzu’s presidency as “a tyrant’s rule” appears to rely on opinion framing and may be too strong if presented in Wikipedia’s voice. Editors may consider whether this should be removed, reworded, or clearly attributed as opinion.
3. The remaining allegations concerning corruption, money laundering through a media firm, and an alleged threat to a media executive should be reviewed for sourcing strength, attribution and due weight, given the higher standard required for contentious material about a living person.
4. The sentence regarding alleged political influence over the judiciary may also require clearer attribution and stronger sourcing if retained.

My request is for independent editors to assess whether this section should be condensed, reworded, better attributed, or otherwise revised so that criticism is presented in an encyclopedic, neutral and proportionate manner.

Concerns regarding sourcing and BLP compliance

I have concerns regarding several portions of the article under WP:BLP. The statements describing Muizzu's presidency as a "tyrant's rule" and alleging political influence over the judiciary appear to rely primarily on a single opinion piece published by Viraasee. Opinion sources are generally insufficient for such serious claims about a living person, particularly a sitting head of state. I do not see substantial independent sourcing that would justify these statements in their current form. I also have concerns regarding the health section. The material contains detailed medical information, including claims about surgeries and alleged medical procedures, sourced to limited reporting. Per WP:BLP and WP:BLPPRIVACY, sensitive personal medical information requires particularly strong sourcing and clear encyclopedic relevance. In the absence of high-quality independent sources, this content may give undue weight to unverified or poorly supported claims. Given the recurring disputes around the article, editors may also wish to consider whether extended confirmed protection would help reduce disruption and encourage discussion before contentious changes are made. Removal garbage content

I have removed this material because I believe it gives undue weight to a politically charged nickname in the biography of a sitting president. The cited sources primarily consist of opposition-aligned reporting, anonymous or non-mainstream outlets, and statements by political opponents. A former vice president's post on X is also not, by itself, sufficient to establish encyclopedic significance. Political slogans, insults, or nicknames should only be included when they have received substantial coverage in multiple high-quality, independent, and reliable secondary sources demonstrating lasting encyclopedic relevance. Per the principles of WP:BLP, WP:NPOV, WP:UNDUE, and WP:RS, I do not believe this content meets the threshold for inclusion in a biography of a living person. If editors believe otherwise, please provide multiple independent, high-quality reliable sources demonstrating that this nickname has received significant coverage beyond partisan or advocacy contexts before restoring it. In March 2026, the independent news outlet Adhadhu released a documentary, "Aisha," featuring allegations by a former President's Office employee that Muizzu had sexually harassed her; Muizzu denied the allegations. Following the documentary's release, the Serious and Organised Crime Department of the Maldives Police raided Adhadhu's offices, seized equipment, and imposed travel bans on the outlet's CEO and managing editor, who were charged under qazf (false accusation of adultery) laws. International press freedom organisations, including the International Press Institute, criticised the raid and subsequent prosecutions as retaliatory; the Maldives fell four places to 108th out of 180 countries in the 2026 RSF World Press Freedom Index.

Reason: this development is already documented on Wikipedia's own Adhadhu article and reported by independent international press-freedom organisations (IFJ, IPI). Its absence leaves the "Controversies and public image" section notably incomplete on a matter of ongoing public and international concern.
