This article calls the attempt to capture Mohammed Farah Aidid a "disaster", and that's not telling the whole story. The US casualties were only 18 compared with well over 100 of Aidid's militia killed. Also, the aim was to capture 2 of Aidid's top officers, which they successfully did. They were hoping that Aidid would be there, but he wasn't. It wasn't a failure just because we lost 18 soldiers.
