Models known to be missing from this list

So I just posted a fairly comprehensive list of 23 models of disabilities, but for posterity I would like it noted it's incomplete. There are so many models out there! Since I ran out of steam, here are some notes I have for anybody who would like to add to the article! :)

• The human variation model per Kay Schriner and Richard Scotch https://dsq-sds.org/index.php/dsq/article/view/341/429
• Crip theory: does it constitute a model of disability? If so, is it distinct from the cultural and/or radical models?
• The dysgenic state. • Posthuman/transhumanist models. The Eugenics Archive includes "beyond-the-species-typical" aka "enhancement models": https://www.eugenicsarchive.ca/encyclopedia?id=535eeb407095aa000000021c - there is a wealth of scholarly literature on disability and post/transhumanism/cybernetics. I'm not sure if this is best thought as one single model or a family of models.

I suspect these are independent uses of "interacitonist" but this would need to be investigated.
• The (social) relational model per Thomas (1999). • The social justice model as described by https://in.nau.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/189/Disability-Models-Article.pdf : is this another name for the political model, the radical model, or its own thing?
• The Legitimacy Model of Disability: I only saw this one on this list https://www.disabled-world.com/definitions/disability-models.php and not sure if this belongs with the charity or bureaucratic models
• The Market Model of Disability: same deal.
• The Sick role of Parsons was listed on that same list as a model of disability. Only place I saw it listed as a model of disability.
• The Social Adapted Model: this is a hybrid model I saw on multiple lists, such as https://www.disabled-world.com/definitions/disability-models.php
• Formal/bureaucratic definitions of disability such as the ICF framework. Given the existing size of the article I'm personally inclined to put formal/bureaucratic frameworks in a different article and keep the focus on social theory.

While I made a point of including some postcolonial perspectives such as Puar and Meekosha, my initial draft still has a definite Western/Global North slant. Adding indigenous-specific perspectives on disability would be nice to see.

Finally: I started a table to summarize the different models of disability, but did not complete it. If anybody wants to finish it out, I think it would help the article come together. Intervex (talk) 07:18, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
