this is a web server front-end module that acts as a standard gateway interface between Apache (web server) and Python (application services)— as a search of "Mod wsgi" on Google Scholar would yield: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=%22Mod+wsgi%22

its notability should not be in Question as it is used as an invisible yet indispensable tool by a significant majority of applications and frameworks like:
