Incorrect bracketed "half sister" suffix about Brandi Cyrus, when she appears to be a full sister if Miley Cyrus.
On Brandi Cyrus page entry it shows Miley Cyrus as a sister which I assume is correct. So it's the entry on this page that is wrong.
Please could someone correct this.
Many thanks. ~2025-37287-10 (talk) 19:00, 29 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, it seems she is the half sister, although as I wrote above the info in suffix form indicating the siblings relationship, shows half sister one way and sister the other. Ie the status is different for Miley Cyrus Vs Brandi Cyrus.
The cited source (which is People Magazine, not ideal) isn't very clear about Brandi. It says Brandi and Trace are Tish's children from a previous relationship but that Billy Ray "adopted them as tots" which could mean informally or legally. If legally, I guess Brandi is a sister? --Laser brain(talk)20:07, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm a few months late, but came here after the same bit of confusion. Brandi and Trace share the same biological father (Baxter Neal Helson). They were each adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus.
I don't know if that makes them siblings or half siblings, but the current page lists half-brother for Trace, and sister for Brandi. At the very least, the tags should show the same thing for each of the two siblings, since it's the exact same situation either way. SirJefferE (talk) 23:25, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

If the page title refers to the artist name (the same way Madonna refers to Madonna Ciccone) this page should change title to Miley, as she just changed her artist name. Ladybugwithascar (talk) 18:05, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Madonna is different because she was Madonna since the beginning. People will not search “Madonna + her surname” because she didn’t have one since the very beginning, a lot of people don’t even know her real name. And the Miley situation is the same as Kanye West when he changed his name to Ye. You all must understand that Wikipedia is not a social media, it’s encyclopedia. Plus, there was a voting already and it was decided not to change. ~2026-43991-57 (talk) 23:54, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The above discussion is inconclusive: it says "rapid near-unanimous opposition and lack of sufficient independent reliable sourcing". Near-unanimous opposition doesn't explain a reason. And there is objectively enough independent reliable sourcing: any search on a news repository will give you dozens of articles about her name change.
Also, saying her name shouldn't change because Kanye's name didn't change is a logical fallacy. It doesn't explain the reason why Kanye's name did not change.
Her artist name on streaming platforms and on her own website is now Miley. I imagine that with time, if her name sticks and becomes commonly used, the wikipedia title might change.
Any update to her name on those services will be at their discretion, and doesn't define whether or when it is right to change it here. Each case is considered here on its own merits, not on the basis of copying what others are doing. — Smjg (talk) 12:28, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It may be the case that the discussion was recent and it's too early to float the idea again, but there will always be grey areas in characterising discussions as such. — Smjg (talk) 12:37, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The above discussion was clearly too early, so it does not establish any kind of long-term consensus. It's probably still too early. We need to give reliable sources time to adapt, then, if they do, we follow suit. Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam decades ago, in 1978!, but we still have him at Cat Stevens because reliable sources never switched. --В²C☎03:01, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Are you sure about that? I would think the reason for Cat Stevens being still at this title is that he is best known as a singer, and the article focuses mainly on this career, and he is best known as this under that name. Terence Trent D'Arby is similar. Furthermore, if the "reliable sources" of which you speak are news articles, they are not likely to be updated retrospectively. We would need either new reliable sources (which may include more recent news articles, even from the same news providers) or reliable sources that by their nature are updated to reflect changes.
It seems this article will want moving to Miley sooner or later, but as you say it's probably too early at the moment. This is a little different from the Cat/Yusuf situation in that he has recorded stuff under the name Yusuf Islam but this was in his post-heyday career. — Smjg (talk) 09:00, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
i agree that eventually it should end up changing (at least to reflect that she now uses a mononym)but to fully immediately reflect the change .. meh .. give it some time Madisonamanii (talk) 00:15, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
