Παραπινάκης . . . Παρα is beside or next to or near. And πινακίω is a sign (pl. πίνακες). You can’t really get ‘minus a quarter’ from Παραπινάκης, can you? He caused food to be sold which was less in its amount than it was indicated to be (maybe a quarter less, who knows, I don't, or I'd alter the article).
