Potentially unbalanced

The current wording in this article seems to lean noticeably in favor of DRM schemes and increased publisher power, using loaded terms like "[copy] protection" as well as claiming that the publication of decryption keys has caused "the situation" to "become even worse". Though, honestly, it may be worth rewriting the entire page anyway, since it seems to have been run through an automatic translator without much proofreading, judging by the highly abnormal sentence structure and supported by the red Wikipedia links scattered throughout. ```````` — Preceding unsigned comment added by JKPwnage (talk • contribs) 11:15, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Short description improvement

I need your help to improve the short description of this article.

It seems that the short description of this article is not correct, and the following short descriptions have been made.

The first short description according to 2kbfloppadisk is:

• Anti-copyright infringement mechanism for optical media

I have question for the first short description of this article, because the short description is not better, as the MKB does not completely mean to prevent copyright infringement.

The second short description from me, which is not better according to GhostInTheMachine, is:

• A mechanism to prevent the optical discs content from being played on the unauthorized and revoked devices

It turns out that the second short description of this article is correct, but too long. So it is "repaired" to make it short.

The third short description from GhostInTheMachine, is:

• Optical disc copyright protection system

But it turns out that the meaning for this short description is still be incorrect, because the MKB does not completely mean to provide copyright protection, but actually means to validate playback device.

I made the following short description, which should be correct:

• A mechanism of optical discs to validate playback device

The above short description is short and should be acceptable to be used on this article, as the MKB actually means to validate playback device by requiring playback device to decrypt (decapsulate) the media key, which is used to decrypt the rest of the data contained in the optical disc. Optical disc copyright protection system (40 characters) is short enough.

The opening sentence of the article states: The Media Key Block (MKB) is one of the keys included inside the optical discs implementing AACS DRM system. The AACS DRM system is a means of copyright protection. So, the MKB is part of the copyright protection system. The desire to validate the device is part of the copyright protection logic.

Optical disc copyright protection data (38 characters) is possibly better, since it provides data to the copyright protection system rather than being the system itself — GhostInTheMachine ^{talk to me} 07:02, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
