Haddaway

According to this source and this one, a Nestor Haddaway attended Meade High from 1979–1983. A musician by the name of Haddaway did "grow up ... in the United States". This Haddaway is the right age to have graduated from high school in 1983, however I've found no reliable source linking Haddaway to Meade High. For now, I'm adding notice of the need for a source citation. —Adavidb 12:59, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Racial interaction

The first graduating class of Meade Senior, 1978, also witnessed conflicts between racial groups, so this report is not usual given the demographics of the student population. When MHS opened its doors, students came from multiple SES communities and neighborhoods. The wealthy students were from Providence, Fort Meade (military officer's children), and Maryland City in Laurel. The middle class students came from the surrounding communities (Harmon, Laurel). The "hoods" were represented by Pioneer City, Meade Village, Bacontown (Laurel), and other rural locations. Most of the students knew each other from junior high school (MacAuther -sp-), and"partying' together. But there was always brewing conflict especially between the Black students from Pioneer City and White students from Laurel and small communities. Not to mention the divide within racial groups based on SES communities. The open classrooms in the science wing were a joke. People would have conversations clear across the rooms during homeroom in the morning. The other academic subjects were in class like cubicles. The teachers were very good, very opinionated and very middle class and conservative. There was a Black Social Studies teacher from Washinton, DC named Mr. Taylor, who was very tolerant, yet firmly supported, of the students =, and discouraged the Black students from engaging in physical confrontations. He had glaucoma and later retired.

All high schools have problems and the school administration at Meade in the late 70s were racist and unsupportive of Black students from the low SES areas, or those students perceived to be problems. This is absolutly right, I was there! Coach Cuthburt cut me from the team ( his best player) at the time. nobody attended class due to he open-ness! Computer Science class details

Please check your records for accuracy. George Meade High School in Anne Arundel County is technically the first high school in Maryland to offer Computer Science (Fall 2019). The Computer Science teacher (long-term substitute) was Mable M. Stewart former Career Internal Revenue Service Information Technology Specialist and Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR). Mable M. Stewart also served in her tenure at Internal Revenue as a Computer Analyst and Telecommunication Specialist. Her husband Thomas Lee Stewart is known as the first African American United States Air Force Programmer 1966 - 1986 (Retired). He would be joined by two African America Officers John Abraham and Sadie Flukas (both African American Programmers) in the late 70's. Thomas Lee Stewart would work and write programs for the Texas State Department (2 years) and the Internal Revenue Service (20 years).
