Mary Anne

[edit]

Just a note that her and Toler's play Golden Days has a character called Mary Anne, who later calls herself Marion to try to fit into a higher social circle. A note in the play's article explains: The name "Mary Anne" at the time carried connotations of simplicity and rural origin; it was one of the things Elaine and Trelle mocked at the Simmonds home. "Marion" or "Marian" would appear more sophisticated. It's possible that Marion Short was not her birth name, though we would need reliable sources to support this. --YodinT 18:56, 24 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
