Yes, I'm not sure what's going on in this discussion either. Yes, there were a few editors making bad edits. They've been blocked from editing Wikipedia. And the page is semi-protected to keep further new, vandalism-only accounts from doing that any more. Everything seems to be wrapped up and fine now as far as I can see. The importance of 2014

Hi, I am the editor who has recently been adding the "sequel to Mario Kart 8" to this article. It's mostly gone uncontested, and reverted maybe two times in a couple days, which is good and far less contention that expected. After each revert, I explained why the edit, in my opinion, holds up. After each explanation, each editor (apparently) stopped reverting. As I type this out, my contribution remains in the lead of the article.

In any case, I'd like to explain, to get ahead of future reverts, why I believe this line is so important.

Simply put, it's a similar situation as Grand Theft Auto VI's article. If you read the opening of that article, you will see it states VI is "following Grand Theft Auto V (2013)." Of course, each main entry in the GTA series of articles clearly names a predecessor, so there is precedent* Regardless the reason why I bring GTA VI up is because much like Mario Kart 8, GTA VI had a decade+ gap between what would be considered "big" or "console" releases.

• (Precedent is not all, in this case even though many past Mario Kart titles do not refer to a predecessor, precedent does not stop us from adding what 2ndary sources say.)

I believe it's in the average reader's best interest, especially casual readers or those not in the know, to realize the gap in time between the current and past release, as well as to know which title came before directly, and which is considered a sequel. Oh, that brings me to...

Of course. Most importantly, the usage of the word "sequel" also stands and it stands strongly. It is backed by a myriad of reliable secondaries. For future editors, whether you agree or not with it being a "sequel" doesn't quite matter. On Wikipedia, we go by what the sources say as per WP:V. "We should say this game is a sequel because GTA VI says it follows GTA V" is pure WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. World being a sequel to MK8 isn't mentioned or sourced at all in the article body, not to mention that Mario Kart games... don't really get traditional "sequels". Numbering installments was a thing they did for only two games, not to mention that in between MK8 and World we got Tour, which Nintendo treats as part of the main series. If consensus has been reached, I believe the reason for reverts and tinkering is just due to misunderstandings and not being in the know. So something must be done to address that. Nope. It's not WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, and that's because I'm not justifying the inclusion solely based on precedent, but explaining how the situation is similar in the real world.

Hey Arkoos, I see different references to behaviour with walls in the two sources on the sentence I assume you want to change. One says “wall jumping” and the other says “bouncing off walls”. So far, I don’t see what you mean by wall riding (although I haven’t played this game) and why it would replace wall jumping. Slomo666 (talk) 08:01, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Quick note for anyone writing anything about the "Intermission" feature

The term "Intermission" used to refer to the connecting routes does not come from official sources. It originates from speculation from before the game released, coming from an interpretation of the "intermission" feature used in private online lobbies and wireless/lan modes that determines how much time is spent in the open world between track selection. The official term for the connecting courses is "routes". Any continued use of the word "Intermission" to describe the "route" feature should either have a conjectural tag or a note clarifying it as an unofficial term. Thanks! Request for restoration of Semi-Protected status

Hi! I am making this request due to Article Vandalization being a semi-frequent occurrence (looking at the revision history it seems at least twice a month) due to MK World being a semi-controversial game in it's design, and due to some fans of other racing games that lean on the more toxic side. The goal of this article should be to present the information in a non-biased means, which can be difficult when this kind of vandalism happens this frequently. To my knowledge this page used to have temporary semi-protection but no longer does, and so because of that I feel like the semi-protected status should be restored indefinitely until general discourse of MK World calms down. When making decisions on page protection, we tend to look at the recent activity of the article. As of me writing this on May 8th, 2026, only one edit has been made since April 11th, 2026, and it was you making a constructive edit. It looks like the last edit of vandalism, this, happened on April 9th, almost a month ago.

Page protection is meant to prevent disruptive edits...but there hasn't been anything to prevent in the last month, so there's no need for it right now. Personally, I know what you mean in a general sense - there is a lot of discourse on the internet about the game. But that doesn't really seem to be bleeding into its Wikipedia article at the moment. I am an Admin, and I do have the article on my WP:WATCHLIST, so I'll keep an eye on it and protect it if/when it needs it. Sergecross73 msg me 14:19, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
