Mainstream fiction

@Altenmann WP:PARTIAL does not apply as some sources will refer to this as just 'the mainstream'. Ex. here ("The paradigmatic topography of ghetto/mainstream marks a border on which is transposed the evaluations popular/serious, low/high"), here (" If the boundaries between SF and the mainstream are..."), here - "mainstream writer" (not "mainstream fiction writer") or ("mainstream novel"). Also used in expressions "mainstream literature", etc.

On the subject of partial, btw, I am not sure if mainstream jazz should be included, as well as companies Mainstream Publishing and Mainstream Records. Shrug. _{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 02:55, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

(ec) I say, per WP:PARTIAL, I disagree: there are quite a lot "mainstream" things, such as mainstream science, mainstream rock, All pages with titles beginning with Mainstream. And in all cases when spoken in a specific context they may be referred to simply "the mainstream", so this is a non-argument and the term simply means "something that is mainstream" with no special meaning. --Altenmann >talk 02:59, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

My reading of the partial suggests that anything that can be called "mainstream" fits here. So mainstream science, if sometimes called just the mainstream, should be here; unlike the companies I mentioned, which do not appear to be called by partial names. WP:PARTIAL: Add a link only if the article's subject (or the relevant subtopic thereof) could plausibly be referred to by essentially the same name as the disambiguated term in a sufficiently generic context. - In a generic context, i.e., outside of the discussion of literature, "the mainstream" is not a unique identifier. If someone wants something mainstream, the "see also" section contains "All pages with titles beginning with Mainstream" --Altenmann >talk 03:21, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

I disagree regarding the context. The examples I provided are pretty generic; the term is used not just for literature, but also other works of art//fiction (film, games), and is used in newspapers, social media talk, etc. And there is a difference between all pages and relevant pages.
