Time to remove semi-protection?
[edit]It looks like this article has been semi-protected for well over 5 years. It seems like this was done around a time of numerous edits which were adding questionable content.
It's not clear to me that this would still necessarily be a topic that would attract significant controversial edits or outright vandalism. What is the process for having the semi-protected status reviewed? 220.235.82.123 (talk) 04:00, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

- I disagree. This article was semi-protected indefinitely by MaterialScientist on Thanksgiving of 2015 due to vandalism, according to the edit history. Seemingly typos?:
"Reduced occurs at high temperatures with silicon...iron component is innoncuouse."
Should be:
"Reduction occurs at high temperatures with silicon...iron component is innocuous."
Though it seems this whole passage is written a bit awkwardly and could be improved upon. Maybe:
"Reduction occurs at high temperatures with silicon. A ferrosilicon alloy is used rather than pure silicon as it is more economical. The iron component has no bearing on the reaction." 214.28.226.87 (talk) 16:39, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

- I think that this addition is welcome up until "production at the plant ceased around 2022"; the note about US primary magnesium production could be added on to that, but the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy and info on a startup that hasn't produced anything yet might be a bit too much detail for an article describing the element on a broad scale. It would definitely be welcomed at Magnesium production by country, but that article is in terrible condition right now. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 12:06, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
