Some things just grow during incremental edits and sometimes get out of hand. The "External links" section, one of the optional appendices, was expanded to 16 entries under three subsections and five links are guides. Three seems to be an acceptable number, and of course, everyone has their favorite to try to add for a fourth. Consensus needs to determine this.
No link is needed for article promotion.
Some links may be included in WP:ELNO, or What Wikipedia is not (policy) such as WP:NOTREPOSITORY or WP:NOTGUIDE.
  • WP:ELDEAD may apply.
  • In some cases ELCITE applies: Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section. Others, listed below:
  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • ELMIN: Minimize the number of links.
The External links guideline This page in a nutshell: External links in an article can be helpful to the reader, but they should be kept minimal, meritable, and directly relevant to the article. With rare exceptions, external links should not be used in the body of an article.
Second paragraph, acceptable external links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy.
    • Please also note:
  • WP:ELBURDEN: Disputed links should be excluded by default unless and until there is a consensus to include them.
Works section: There are 85 links in eleven subsections, which is a lot, and adding the 26 links in the "Further reading" section is too much. -- Otr500 (talk) 05:33, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pronoun Change

[edit]

I've reverted a change of pronouns for the subject. Deserves discussion here. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 16:01, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

lou stated both a name and pronoun preference multiple times ~2026-24385-81 (talk) 18:34, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
to not even refer back to this in The article about the author is incredibly disrespectful ~2026-24385-81 (talk) 18:43, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing that suggests Alcott was transgender. TheClocksAlwaysTurn (The Clockworks) (contribs) 20:47, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
while that may be true, it is still worthy of atleast a MENTION in the article. it doesn't need to be as far as a full name and pronouns change, but we make mention of 'tomboy' in the early life section, so I personally think this should be covered too, if only to clarify what is actually supported in evidence. 🙚Allaoii🙘 18:15, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
However, despite this, there is no reason for a name or pronouns change. Alcott is commonly accepted to be a cisgender woman, not transgender. I am not saying if somehow in the future they are found to have been trans, that their name and pronouns shouldn't be changed. But based on what we have now, there is no reason. Additionally, just being a "tomboy" does not change much. TheClocksAlwaysTurn (The Clockworks) (contribs) 19:27, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
ok, let me clarify. I am not necessarily in favor of a name/pronoun chance, but I do think that it should be mentioned in the article. again, it could just be explaining what the evidence supports and the fallacies/problems with the claim. the current version not mentioning it at all seems off. 🙚Allaoii🙘 02:05, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
What precisely are you saying "should be mentioned in the article" and what reliable sources support it? --John (User:Jwy/talk) 02:14, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
the like, gender thing? that is the reason people say Alcott was trans? the actual things in Alcott's life that were the source? other people have already gone into this, so I will just direct you to a specific comment from an archived discussion that puts it far better than I ever could. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Louisa_May_Alcott/Archive_1#c-Kleopatraisyra-20230829002800-174.92.48.180-20230825025500 🙚Allaoii🙘 21:57, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
