'Most viewed language edition' and 'most edited language edition' images
[edit]The colour schemes (language-colour correspondences) are different for the two images. This is confusing for the viewer. On top of it all, they are not entirely different - some languages do have the same colour in both images, while others don't, for unclear reasons - which makes it even harder to know what to expect. They should both maintain the same colour scheme. Anonymous44 (talk) 09:27, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
"Launch date" of a Wikipedia
[edit]Hello, there are different interpretations of the "Launch date" of a Wikipedia:
- (1) date of the first edit of the main page
- (2) date when the Wikipedia became "active"
This is similar to the first appearance in the statistics with the official article count from the{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}magic word. These dates could be determined retroactively using the historical datas from the statistics:- from Jan 2001 to Oct 2008: see Wikipedia:Multilingual statistics for monthly statistics
(from Jan 2001 to Oct 2018 there is a complete monthly list but with rounded data on stats.wikimedia.org (archive, screenshot)) - from 29 Oct 2007 to 12 Oct 2022: see the revision history of meta:List of Wikipedias/Table
- since 8 June 2020: see the revision history of commons:data:Wikipedia statistics/data.tab
- from Jan 2001 to Oct 2008: see Wikipedia:Multilingual statistics for monthly statistics
- (3) Neither of the two
For some Wikipedias like for the Ossetian Wikipedia it does not matter:
- (1) The date of the first edit of the main page was the 28 Feb 2005
- (2) The first appearance in the 2005 Wikipedia statistics is the 1 March 2005, so it was launched ("active") the month before, Feb 2005, fine!
For other like the Ladin Wikipedia the difference between these interpretations can be great:
- (1) the Ladin main page was already started August 2005.
- (2) The first appearance in the wikimedia article count statistics was 15 years later: 18(17) August 2020. This date is mentioned on Ladin Wikipedia.
For other Wikipedias like the German Wikipedia there is obviosly a 3rd interpretation:
- (3) The lauch date is mentioned as 16 Mar 2001, but:
- (1) The de main page was created 28 Aug 2002
- (2) The first appearance in the 2001 Wikipedia statistics is on 1 June 2001, so it was launched ("active") the month before, so May 2001.
So what should we do? I think the best way is when the Wikipedia became active! So first: checking the pages from Wikipedia:Multilingual monthly statistics/2001 to Wikipedia:Multilingual monthly statistics/2006 and then like described above under point (2).

Why isn't Abstract Wikipedia in there?
[edit]While I'm checking this list, well, for the 2026 list, or the test Wikipedia list, I didn't see abstract Wikipedia, which appeared on incubator showing it is a wikipedia established. I think we should add abstract wiki. Like, even the two test wikis are in there. 配合比全额更好(说说而已) (talk) 09:11, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
About Bukovinian Wikipedia
[edit]There's no buko.wikipedia.org/wiki/ sub-domain that existed in the history, so I think we should fix this mistake. Charliezhang067067067 (talk) 02:56, 31 August 2026 (UTC)
Is it just me or is this a displaying issue
[edit]In the deleted Wikipedias table, there's a displaying issue with the "name in native language section", pretty sure since nothing's there. The text at the top is sideways, overlaps, and can't be read. For me at least. So, we gonna do something about this? Ben Avital (talk) 18:15, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
- It looks like people just entered blanks in that column. Presumably the people who added those rows didn't know the name in the native language. If you look at the Closed and read-only Wikipedias section, it also has blanks in some rows.
- The text at the top is sideways because in the source code it was entered with the "verth" feature. It'll display horizontally if you remove that. Although I asume that was done just to save space. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it overlaps and can't be read. It looks fine to me. - Burner89751654 (talk) 13:17, 5 September 2026 (UTC)
