Per Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons, I removed the following passage. If someone can find a reliable source to back it up, you're welcome to put it back in, although personally I would like a more detailed explanation of the alleged events:

Leon Botstein advocated in writing for the banning of a book by Bard alumna Charleen Touchette from a public library on December 19, 2005. PEN and ACLU advocated that the book "It Stops with Me" be returned to the public library shelves. The book ban was abandoned by the public library but President Botstein has never fully explained his support of censorship of a Bard Alumni’s award wining book to the literary community.

Reading between the lines, it appears that Botstein was supporting a Bard professor who found the book hurtful to her family. But he did indeed support banning the book.

I removed an assertion ("[Botstein] also won the award for best dressed human on the planet in 2006, out-dressing even front runners Baron Davis and Soulja Boy") that reeked of vandalism. If it was not, it needs a citation before being reinserted. --MatthewLiberal 19:52, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

wacky finances and bad calls: Botstein and Epstein

Someone should write about the J.Epstein Botstein connection. Botstein admittedly took money from Jeffrey Epstein after the latter was convicted and sentenced for sexual abuse of a minor/procuring a minor for purposes of prostitution. Hyperlinks

Unless I'm mistaken, news articles belong in sources, citations, not hyperlinks in body of article. This seems especially crucial for biographies of living persons. Bobuponbob (talk) 18:28, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Retirement

As per the NYT, he is not retiring effective immediately. He will stay on for the rest of year. I think we should all be careful to make sure the lede + infobox reflects this, unless something changes.
