Greg Stauton, Chairman of the Ledbury Tenants Association stood unsuccessfully for Council in a bye-election in the Friary Ward in 1989 (?). The vacancy was caused by the resignation of one councilor in support of of Tony Goss's Independent Labour Group. Staunton aligned himself with Goss under the banner Independent Labour - Tenants Association, and announced that he had appeared on TV's London Programme to talk about squatting.
