Kansas or Missouri?

[edit]

I note that the history of this school shows it moved several times, mostly as a result of acquisitions or mergers. Of the two cities named Kansas City, the older and somewhat larger is KC Missouri, while its suburb, KC Kansas was the result of the consolidation of five Kansas cities, now all under the name KC Kansas.

The school's expansion appears to include an absorbed, satellite campus in KC Kansas, which was established decades after the main campus in Missouri. Do the cities noted in these chapter lists note definitively which campus they are tied to? Either the surviving chapter or its predecessors as part of consolidation? I began to edit these, but realized I was over the tips of my skis, and realized clear references were required to state the location definitively. Jax MN (talk) 20:12, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

All of the campus addresses I found for Horner Institute/KC Conservatory are in Missouri. There are two sources (one pre-merger and one post-merger) indicating there were two chapters: one in MO and the other in KS. I also found a newspaper article that specifies the campus is located on the western side of the river, indicating that there were campuses on both sides of the river. We can assume that one chapter was originally at the Horner Institute and the other at the KC Conservatory, but I have not found a source to support this. Post-merger info suggests that both chapters continued for some time, so another option is that both chapters were at the same institution, with one chapter for music and the other for oratory. There are nearly 29,000 articles in Newspapers.com for "Kansas City Conservatory", more than 5,000 for "Honor Institute of Fine Arts", and more than 3800 for "Lambda Phi Delta", so it is going to take me a while to work on this.
