Topoli is captured since March of 2025 and no need to make it contested

also the settlement of petropavlivka is not contested anymore as Ukraine regained it

The map is mainly based off of the ISW’s map, who has assessed that Russia does not have full control over those settlements yet. Russia also recently made a claim in Petropavlivka’s northern outskirts and fighting is ongoing in those outskirts. IiSmxyzXX (talk) 20:52, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Article needs updating

Since the articles last update around early May, many changes to the frontline and overall situation here have occurred. Notably, there has been increased activity around the international border with Kharkiv oblast, and Russian forces have made several claims (most recently as July 6 2025) regarding breaching Kupiansk’s defences and capturing its immediate surroundings, and even claiming foothold in the cities administrative boundaries. I am also considering removing the estimate for the Russian manpower. From what I can tell, 10,000+ comes from Whether and when Kupyansk falls for the second time in the wider war could hinge on whether and when the powerful Russian 1st Guards Tank Army—three divisions and five brigades with tens of thousands of troops—can secure a firmer foothold on the western bank of the Oskil River in the same article, but all reports suggest that the Russian forces involved here are primarily of the 6th Combined Arms Army with a few supplementary 1st Guards Tank Army units, so I'm not sure how useful or appropriate Axe's number is for this infobox. Zelensky video at Kupyansk

Firstly, adjust this sentence:

The operation culminated with president Zelensky visiting the center of the town on 12 December in person and recording a video at the distinctive monument with town's name.

Zelensky didn't visit the center of Kupyansk but the stele on the southwestern outskirts of the city (49.693285, 37.585564). Far from the CENTER.

Secondly, there are posts on TG about the video being faked or old footage. There's a Russian drone video of the stele and another video of two Ukrainian women visting the site. Both show the stele and its surroundings (such as the anti-drone net tunnel) much more destroyed.

Obviously, pro-UKR media won't report on it being likely fake or old, at least not now. So you won't be able to edit the article. Just keep it in mind.

Blatant russian propaganda and copium not even worth seriously engaging.

Firstly, it can’t be “old” simply because of Zelensky shooting it on iPhone 17, which came out quite recently.

It’s almost like it is still a frontline city where fighting rages on day and night… Let’s just use logic here, I could just say that russians wasted a FPV drone to cause the “destructions” to then say the video is “fake”, but, unless you are a russian shill, you wouldn’t even consider it as an argument to disprove authenticity of the video because surprisingly things tend to get destroyed near the frontline. You are talking about stele, but an entire house sector can be wiped out in a single day. Old as in a couple of months old. It also could just be studio-made. He doesn't interact with the surroundings in the video, so it's not even hard to fake.

Either way, this is just informational, as Wikipedia is handcuffed to only link pro-UKR reports.

The edit request is to correct the supposed location: the stele southwest of the city, not the center of it. The other video where he awards medals to Ukrainian soldiers is clearly filmed at another location.

Even later Putin used Kupiansk as an example. This beautiful quote shows on how the Russian leader is in his Kremlin “bubble”, insulated by top military leaders from the facts.

“You should ask Zelensky because Kupyansk has been effectively under our control for several weeks, completely and in its entirety. I think the Ukrainian leadership appears focused on issues other than the situation in the active combat zone and seems to be living on another planet. … Russian troops control both the right-bank and left-bank areas, entirely.”
