I've checked all the sources cited in this article and most of them don't support the claim that kompang originated from Java with the ones that do being unreliable. The article also seems to conflate mentions of gamelan in the sources as proof of the existence of kompang back then as no source cited that talks about the gamelan also mentions kompang.

And that's not talking about how the article seems to overemphasize on the supposed Javanese (and thus Indonesian) origin of the instrument rather than the instrument itself. One of the sources cited even writes about how it's unclear whether the instrument originated from Arabia or Java but this is not mentioned at all. — Jeluang Terluang (talk) 20:53, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
