[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Nice work but I would like to see more independent secondary sources added.

Request to update article (name, birth year/age, early life, and BAE service)

[edit]

Request to update article (name, birth year/age, early life, and BAE service) – BLP privacy

The article currently lists her full name as “Kaleihikina Lehua ‘Kalei’ Akaka” and birth year as 1982 or 1983 (age 42–43). It also lacks key details on her early life and committee service that are well-sourced in reliable publications.

Requested changes:

  1. Correct full name Change lead and infobox from “Kaleihikina Lehua ‘Kalei’ Akaka” to Kaleihikina “Kalei” Akaka (or note legal/official filings as KALEIHIKINA A. AKAKA). “Lehua” does not appear in any official OHA biography, election records, or major news sources.
  2. Remove birth year and age (BLP privacy) The subject requests that her birth year and age not be displayed. They appear only in two older articles and are not listed on her official OHA page or election records.
  3. Update Early life section Add/clarify: Kalei Akaka grew up in both Kona on the island of Hawaiʻi and in Honolulu on Oʻahu. She also spent summers in Washington, D.C., with her grandparents, U.S. Senator Daniel Kahikina Akaka and Millie Akaka.
  4. Add committee service She served as Vice Chair of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ Committee on Beneficiary Advocacy and Empowerment (BAE) from 2018 to 2020, then as Chair from late 2020 until 2024, and has served as Vice Chair again since 2024 (current).

Supporting sources (all reliable, independent or official OHA publications):

Thank you for your help keeping this BLP accurate and respectful of the subject’s privacy preferences. ~2026-27415-77 (talk) 22:04, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
