Why does this article dox Fractal?
The term doxxing refers to the act of disclosing one's private information without consent. One of the sources used in the article[1] is cited to a student news article from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which Yu currently attends, and is the first result on Google's news search. Yu's name was disclosed in that article, and this article was written with the presumption that he consented to his name being posted online. References

[edit]- File:Justin Yu CTWC 2023.jpg Looks correctly licensed, though I have to say I'm not used to GDrives being used to share images.
- File:2023 CTWC finals.jpg - On wider displays this crashes into the infobox. May want to move it down a little. Also, fixed image sized are not recommended per MOS:IMGSIZE.

Prose review
[edit]- which helped him to become the first person to reach Tetris's late-game glitched color levels, as well unintentionally help him in his major at MIT. - "help" ... "help". Perhaps rephrase to be less clunky?

Source review
[edit]- Per Wikipedia:Citing sources, reference style should be consistent. I see a mixture of sentence case and title case for the articles cited.
- The majority of the article is sentence case, the only part I can see that's title case is the competitive record results, and that's because that's exactly how the title is formatted in the source. I've actually never heard this concern before, so I apologize for asking, but can this stay as is? Cheers! Johnson524 05:27, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- GA Criterion 2a, "it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;" In this case, the relevent sentence is "Editors may use any citation method they choose, but it should be consistent within an article." It tends to slide at GA, but it does get caught at FA reviews ("The translated title for Chen 2009 isn't capitalized the same as the others", ""Quick Spin" should be "Quick spin" for consistent capitalisation", Check the capitalisation on article titles, which goes awry in places. Most are in sentence case, but for some (FNs 3, 6 and 127) caps have sneaked in there). In this case, I don't think it's a deal breaker, but it is something that would help improve the article. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 09:33, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Done For the most part, the only titles I didn't change were the competitive record ones along the line of "CTM May 2022 Masters Event" and so on, as these seemed like more formal titles than anything. Johnson524 17:27, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Move page to Fractal (gamer)
[edit]When people in the Tetris community talk about, or to Fractal, nobody refers to him as Justin, or, only rarely when introducing him in a YouTube video.. In this talk page I use the name "Fractal", because it would honestly be impolite to do so otherwise. All his social accounts go by "Fractal". To refer to him as Justin Yu, like on a Wikipedia page is just poor manners. Not only that, it doesn't follow Wikipedia's policy of using common names. We don't default to the government name of living people, we use the name they actually go by in the field they're known for. This is true for pen names (J.K Rowling), stage names (Marylin Monroe), ring names (Hulk Hogan), and yes, gamertags, like with Faker and Turbopolsa. Using their government names violates Wikipedia policy, prior precedent and its just kinda weird. Stolenshortsword (talk) 09:29, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

improved "Competitive record" tables for Tetris players
[edit]there's a draft for a more accurate and useful table at my sandbox.
@Johnson524 pinging for feedback, as you are the original author. DK-ZERO (talk) 09:25, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @DK-ZERO: Ooo I like the concept! I'll continue the conversation on your sandbox's talk page. Cheers! Johnson524 02:16, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- If aggregation sites were better, we could probably have had nice, year-based tables like what golfer articles have. I’m a bit worried that the tables we have now contain too much trivial information. 3df (talk) 03:15, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- @DK-ZERO: Oh I suppose I'll just comment here 🙂 I like the table, but even more-so like the fact that someone else cares about the table! For a little bit of history, I created all five of the articles that exist for current competitive Tetris players (which I truly loved doing), but in doing so, I had nothing to base the competitive tables off of, so I kind of made up their style as I went. I love that there can finally be a discussion about them to make them the best they can be. Adding on to 3df's comment about some info potentially being trivial, however, here is my personal breakdown of the improved table:
- Support:
- Specified lower placing results (i.e. adding 3rd-4th, 9th-16th) (Easily my favorite!)
- Adding "size" column (good for distinguishing weight of events)
- Adding "seed" column (good for showing how favored they were pre-competition)
- Expanding section lead to include types of competitions included (i.e. "CTWC DAS and CTM Mega Masters [...]")
- Centering the year
- Oppose:
- Liquipedia mention in section lead (as Liquipedia is hardly-if-ever cited, the general consensus is to not use Liquipedia in any capacity for these articles)
- Removal of message "It should be noted the table is likely incomplete [...]" in section lead (valuable info)
- Adding "bye" column (for how little times its relevant)
- Centering competition names (I personally think it looks cleaner/easier to read from left to right as opposed to centered, but I'm more indifferent than anything
- Adding YouTube as a reference (i.e. "add yt as ref?") is a slippery slope. They are primary references first and foremost, so adding events which ONLY have YouTube as a references don't demonstrate notability imo. Personally, I ran into this problem during my GA review for Alex Thach.
- If you are fine with not implementing these opposes, I would be more than happy to start using this updated competitive record table moving forward. Thank you for your work and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think, cheers! Johnson524 04:53, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- thank you again @Johnson524 for your considerable feedback!
- this is giving me confidence to finally polish this rough draft after not touching the idea for a month.
- 1) Liquipedia is the place people from CTWC stats team like Marfram use to directly input their data. that being said, if it doesn't, or cannot per it's wiki nature, meet standards to qualify as "further reading" then it shall not be mentioned.
- 2) lead has been re-written. Is this making the tables aim clear now?
- 3) the bye column (and size and seed) is a result of me being confused whilst proofreading the table we currently have. seems to be very relevant for interpreting the score. eg Fractal played both "CTM Masters" and "CTM DAS Masters" in March 2025. both times with a score of "3-1" and versus a bracket size of 32. yet he finished 2nd for Masters and 3rd-4th for DAS Masters. this is confusing and looks like an editor's error without knowledge of number of byes awarded.
- 4) the centering is merely an artifact of me not knowing how to format a table, although it looks fine to me like that too.
- 5) agree, all prior use of YouTube as a ref has since been replaced by their corresponding entry at tetrisinterest. DK-ZERO (talk) 12:07, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- @DK-ZERO: I'm glad we're in the same boat about YouTube, and I'll have to agree for the reasons previously stated Liquipedia that should also not be used. The final things I think should be changed before rolling out the updated tables are:
- 1. Rather than having to explain using multiple sentences why the "bye" column is useful only occasional times, just don't include the column at all. As opposed to the addition of the "size" and "seed" columns which I think are fantastic additions, I still believe "bye" is the easily least useful column for aiding readers understanding of each competition.
- 2. The line "It is aiming to be complete within the limits of its definition only." is redundant to the first sentence and should be removed.
- 3. For the same reasons that text automatically floats left in thumb images, I believe the "Tournament" column should float left rather than centered for readability.
- 4. Lastly, what would you think of this as the new section lead?
- This table lists notable Tetris tournaments in which Yu competed in and their outcomes. It includes appearances at the Classic Tetris World Championship, CTWC Jonas Cup, CTWC DAS, CTM Mega Masters, and other CTM events. Results prior to February 2022 may be incomplete, as the CTM website only listed winners and runners-up for tournaments before this date.
- Cheers! Johnson524 16:05, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- 1) removed the second paragraph, as in-depth elaborating on the tournament structure ought to be done at the CTWC article itself.
- still, there should either just be a bye column, or a notice pointing out that byes may exist and thus affect number of rounds played, which affects how score relates to placing.
- another example of bye column being helpful to understanding: Andy won both "CTM Masters" and "CTM DAS Masters" in June 2025, both size 32, the former 5-0, the latter 4-0. (looks like a typo but isn't, byes are to be factored in) (fun fact: the Andy article actually did have both as 4-0 and no one noticed...)
- 2) removed it is.
- 3) don't know how to format it such that only the "Tournament" column floats left. can you do that for me?
- 4) edited my draft's section lead, incorporating your suggestion, but instead of "and other CTM events" keeping "[...] semifinals in other CTWC or CTM events". as that's what my table actually shows. excluding the bloat of the many CTM tournament runs failing to make 3rd-4th easily cuts the table volume by half. keeping it essential to the reader and reducing upkeep to the editor. DK-ZERO (talk) 18:06, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Okay @DK-ZERO: I've implemented some manual of style changes so that the table AND section lead both look good to go, amazing work on your part too! 🙂 The truly last thing is the "bye" column: I still don't believe it's important enough to be included. Good catch on catching the Andy mistake, but I just don't think its helpful outside of those few cases, whereas the other column are helpful in every case. Are you completely against removing it? Cheers! Johnson524 14:26, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- well my bias is such that it's helpful to me. both when it comes to interpreting the table and as a fail-safe when inputting new results. the obvious solution to our stalemate would be to just ask other people for their opinion. how about that? @Johnson524
- ps. my motivation for making a new table was noticing some scores that felt erroneous, looking into the matter, and finding more to the point of it justifying starting from scratch, and being extra cautious about any sources of error or misunderstanding. DK-ZERO (talk) 15:28, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- @DK-ZERO: Sounds good to me! The only other frequent Tetris article editor is @3df, so I'd love to hear what they think. Otherwise though, if you'd like to find more people to weigh in I'd have no problem with that 🙂 Cheers! Johnson524 17:25, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Rather than a column, I would recommend a footnote on each score where a bye occurred. 3df (talk) 18:01, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- ty @3df, that's a great idea! but how to implement? feel free to just edit my sandbox. DK-ZERO (talk) 18:10, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
