What's the "verification needed" on "Yellow-eyed Junco, Junco" supposed to mean?
[edit]I've two pocket birding guides with me. Sibley _Field Guide to Birds of Western North American_ says Yellow-eyed Junco is J. phaeonotus. So does the _National Audubon Field Guide to North American Birds_.

Juncus

Juncos and reeds
[edit]It's not that Juncos live near (or prefer) wetlands, but that their "tick-tick-tick" alarm call sounds like reeds clicking together in the wind. They are a New World bird, and the Spanish settlers needed a new word for a new bird.
