Terminology

Is "jumboisation" a commonly used english-language term for this process? Apart from the Townsend Thoresen article here in en.wiki I don't recall ever seeing the term used in english-language text. -- Kjet (talk · contribs) 15:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I have never heard the term Jumboisation used. When I worked on ships we called it extending, lengthening, or stretching a vessel. I suspect "jumboisation" is a bad translation that one yard uses on their web site. As an English term, it only makes sense if someone is converting a vessel into a "jumbo" class. The word "jumbo" means "A very large person or thing."^{wiktionary:jumbo} The suffix -isation is "A word ending that indicates process or result."^{, +} --Marc Kupper|talk 04:04, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I did a bit more looking around and it seems what happened is that the French language article fr:Jumboïsation was transliterated, and not translated into English. This English language WP article is clearly a direct, nearly word for word copy, of the French language article. Incorrect photo

As far as I can tell, the current photo of Mistral isn't correct for this article. The photo shows a module being added during the regular construction of the ship. Jumboisation is an enlarging of an already existing ship. What is needed is a photo of the Enchantment of the Seas, or some other such jumboisation. I also just noticed that a mention of jumboisation has been added to the Mistral article, which again is incorrect. Joining modules during the original construction of a ship is not jumboisation.
