Beauty in John S. Wilson's Work

[edit]

I knew JSW, perhaps better than he realised.

Maths is a discipline that combines Abstraction and Logic, and uses Aesthetic Beauty is a highly efficient intuitive proof checker. The art of developing mathematics is to develop a subject so as to align what what can be done this way. Good mathematics is an art, and it must be beautiful. I never knew JSW's work as a composer, but this came as no surprise, nor that his interests here cover both classical and (Christian like a cathedral choir, not like a happy clappy Jesus Junkie band, can't find the word). As a mathematician, I would say that JSW was a great painter; but music was his true art.

If you would like me to expand on any of the above, discuss. I can not, however, function as any kind of authority on JSW since I was only in the Mathematics department, doing my Ph.D. under Richard Kaye, at Birmingham Uni as a postgrad, spurred into it by then head of school Robert T. Curtis over beer and pizza having given our MSci talks. I knew JSW, but I am not an authority on JSW.
