more work needed

[edit]

although Appleton's Cyclopedia says this Patton was a judge of the Virginia Court of Appeals, he doesn't appear on the list of justices, so he may have been a local circuit court judge in Richmond, although the 1850 census merely lists him as a lawyer. Unfortunately, ancestry.com has changed its indexing of the 1850 federal census slave schedules and the library is closing, so I cannot document his slaveholdings.Jweaver28 (talk) 00:58, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

John Mercer Patton, Jr.

[edit]

You might want to mention that John, Jr. (1826-1899), was a VMI grad and also a Confederate officer--a colonel of the 21st VA Regiment. Colinedward828 (talk) 11:28, 9 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
