Defeated in 1958?

[edit]

If so, then how did he begin his first term in 1959? Something's wrong here, or if not, an explanatory statement needs to be added. Brian8710 23:58, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kyl then won a special election to fill the vacancy. He continued to serve as the Representative from Iowa's 4th congressional district for two additional terms, but was defeated in the Democratic landslide in 1964.

John Henry Kyl → John Kyl – per: WP:COMMONNAME and WP:CONCISE. Kyl was not known as "John Henry Kyl" or "John H. Kyl"; he was known as "John Kyl." A Newspapers.com search of Indiana from 1958 (when he first ran for office) to 2002 (when he died) shows 5,981 results for "John Kyl," 156 results for "John H. Kyl," and 2 matches for "John Henry Kyl." this page was first title "John Kyl" and was moved in 2005, presumably to disambiguate from his son, the similarly named Jon Kyl. however, we deal often enough with similarly named people; adding a middle name as a disambiguator that he never went by seems unnecessary and confusing.
