[edit]I found this article while researching that famous misquote about the abdomen, the chest, and the brain. Later I leaned Erichsen "was known for accepting his junior surgeons' advances." Wait, what? This phrasing made me think Erichsen was sexually involved with his students. The source indicates that Erichsen was open minded to advances in surgical technique that were introduced by surgeons who were less experienced.
