Conflict-of-interest edit request from article subject (September 2026)

[edit]

I am Johan Wiklund, the subject of this article. Per WP:COI and WP:BLPEDIT I am not editing the page myself and am requesting the changes below. I am disclosing my conflict of interest here and on my user page. Each request is sourced; where the source is my own institution rather than an independent one, I have said so. I have no objection to any of these being declined.

Items 1–4 are maintenance and consistency fixes, two of which display visible errors on the live page. Items 5–9 are updates since 2019, when the article was created.

1. CS1 error in the doctoral thesis citation

[edit]

Reference 6 currently uses {{cite journal}} and displays a red CS1 error: "Cite journal requires |journal=". The work is a doctoral dissertation, not a journal article. Please change:

  • From: {{cite journal |last=Wiklund |first=Johan |year=1998 |title=Small Firm Growth and Performance: Entrepreneurship and Beyond}}
  • To: {{cite thesis |last=Wiklund |first=Johan |year=1998 |title=Small Firm Growth and Performance: Entrepreneurship and Beyond |type=PhD thesis |publisher=Jönköping International Business School |location=Jönköping, Sweden}}
[edit]

Reference 7, Dean Shepherd's faculty page at the Mendoza College of Business, is tagged {{permanent dead link}}. The old URL no longer resolves. Suggested replacement: his current faculty listing at https://mendoza.nd.edu/mendoza-directory/profile/dean-shepherd/ — or the citation could simply be removed, since the sentence it supports (that I collaborated with Shepherd) is already covered by reference 8.

3. Misspelling of a collaborator's name

[edit]

In the "Early career" section, Dean Shephard should read Dean Shepherd (see Dean Shepherd).

4. Birth year inconsistent between infobox and category

[edit]

The infobox gives 12 June 1962, but the article is in Category:1963 births. These contradict each other. 1962 is correct; please change the category to Category:1962 births. I recognise this rests on my own statement as the article subject (WP:BLPSELFPUB); at minimum the internal contradiction should be resolved one way or the other.

5. Ranking among most prolific business and economics scholars (2025)

[edit]

Not currently mentioned. Suggested addition:

In 2025 Wiklund was ranked 32nd among the most prolific business and economics research scholars globally, with 42 papers in journals on the Financial Times Top 50 list, in a bibliometric study published in Production and Operations Management.[1]

Note for editors: this source is my own institution and so is not independent. The underlying study — "What We Know About the Science of Science in Business and Economics? Insights From the Top 50 Journals, 2008–2022", Production and Operations Management (2025) — is the better citation if someone can access it and verify the rank directly.

6. Citation count

[edit]

Not currently mentioned. The lead already says "over 100 articles appearing in leading entrepreneurship and management journals". Suggested revision of that sentence:

He is considered a leading authority in entrepreneurship research, with over 100 articles appearing in leading entrepreneurship and management journals and more than 60,000 citations to his work according to Google Scholar.[1][2]

Note for editors: the figure appears in the institutional source above ("more than 60,000 citations to his research") and is corroborated by my Google Scholar profile, which the article already cites as reference 13. Per WP:SCHOLARSHIP I have attributed the count to a named database rather than stating it flatly.

7. SAGE 10-Year Impact Award (2020)

[edit]

Not currently listed. This is an independent source rather than an institutional one. Suggested addition to "Selected honors and awards":

  • 10-Year Impact Award – SAGE Publishing, for Rauch, Wiklund, Lumpkin & Frese, "Entrepreneurial Orientation and Business Performance: An Assessment of Past Research and Suggestions for the Future" (2020)[3]

Note: the award was conferred in 2020 for papers published in 2009 and most-cited over 2009–2019. The paper appeared in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice; I am now editor-in-chief of that journal, but was not at the time of either publication or award.

8. Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award (2025)

[edit]

Not currently listed; the awards list stops at 2018. The Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management conferred this award on me jointly with Ronald K. Mitchell in 2025, and lists us under "Previous Winners" on its own awards page. Suggested addition to "Selected honors and awards":

  • Dedication to Entrepreneurship Award – Academy of Management, Entrepreneurship Division, jointly with Ronald K. Mitchell (2025)[4]

Note for editors: this is the awarding body's own published list — the same source already used for references 17 and 18 in the article. The award was shared, so please do not word the entry to imply sole receipt.

9. Neurodiversity and the BRQ special issue

[edit]

The "Mental health, well-being and entrepreneurship" section names co-edited special issues in Academy of Management Perspectives and the Journal of Business Venturing. A more recent one is missing, and the section does not mention neurodiversity or impulsivity, which are now central to this work. Suggested addition at the end of that section:

More recently his work in this area has focused on neurodiversity and impulsivity in entrepreneurship. With Daniel Lerner, Ana Pérez-Luño and Ute Stephan he guest-edited a special issue of BRQ Business Research Quarterly on mental health, well-being and entrepreneurship.[5][6]

Not requested

[edit]

For the record, two items in a message I received about this article appear to be mistaken: the article already describes me as Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship, and the most recent award currently listed is from 2018, not 2015. No change is needed on either point.

Thanks to anyone who takes this on. Jwiklund (talk) 12:05, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
