JAY-Z

I have already changed the Simple English article to JAY-Z. CB19 (talk) 12:47, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

@Cloverboy19: it should not be in all caps as "JAY-Z". It should be Jay-Z as agreed upon in the consensus above. It could also be against WP:MOSCAPS and other stylization guidelines. --Jennica / talk 03:46, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

OPINION: Opening section sucks, needs improvement

The opening section to this article is pretty bad imo. It's just a bunch of superficial rankings and how much money Jay-Z has made. It could be vastly improved by covering a general history of Jay-Z's musical career, his style of music, and/or influence in the music industry (like the opening sections for Beyonce, Kanye West, Kendrick, J. Cole). I don't wanna edit it cuz I'm no expert on Jay-Z, just wanted to give my opinion on this article. SomePersona (talk) 04:53, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

What do my fellow Wikipedians think about this? SomePersona (talk) 03:19, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Agreed! What are your thoughts? I mean right off the bat, it looks a tad citation heavy (WP:CITEKILL). LivinRealGüd (talk) 04:40, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for responding. I feel like much of the first paragraph (which, I must agree, is pretty citation-heavy) could be moved to a seperate section (probably titled “achievements,” “acclaim,” or “influence”). It could be replaced with a brief history of Jay-Z’s records, his general music career, and/or his special style of music. I feel like this is what someone who had no idea who Jay-Z is would want to know, not how high Rolling Stone ranked Jay-Z on some list. SomePersona (talk) 17:21, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

We need to change this section, it's really bad SomePersona (talk) 14:25, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

The phrase The brand is known for its popularity with high-profile artists as being the gold bottles often referred to in media. and the citations after it are duplicated, and the first instance has a stray </ref> tag.

It appears that the duplication happened initially in <these changes>, which appeared to have been attempting to remove a citation that was just a quote without a source and an attempt at fixing things was also done in <this change> which ended up removing one of the initial citations (because it was left broken from the initial change).

The best outcome would probably be only one instance of the line, with the citation that ended up getting deleted restored and with the citation that was just a quote without a source remaining removed. Although I haven't reviewed the citation that was removed in the second change to see if it's needed, it just appears it was removed due to the tag being broken rather than its content. 2804:F14:80D6:E401:BDFE:45D3:FE55:4429 (talk) 06:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

The current infobox image was taken in 2011. Since the appearance of the rapper has changed during the past decade (having long hair), it is reasonable to update the infobox image to a more recent one. Windywendi (talk) 02:38, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

He looks almost the same with either (long or short hair/bald). Jay is recognizable is not his hair. Its probably his face shape. So I think we shouldn't change the picture. A. it is WP:SYNTH to include R Kelley's convictions in the biography of Jay-Z, b. it is irrelevant to the album as he was not convicted at the time, and c. we have a wikilink that takes you to an article that details R. Kelley's criminal convictions. nableezy - 18:43, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

It is his identifier. He is a convicted sex trafficker with crimes predating decades. Hence he was a sex trafficker at the time the albums were recorded. In the edit history of this article, you tried to establish a new precedent to remove an identifier for this one particular individual, stating that identifiers of other individuals has no relevance to Jay-Z, especially if they have their own articles with all their relevant details. When that same precedent was used to removed identifiers for other individuals you reverted. The is a clear violation of WP:OWN. Moreover, solely removing an identifier for a controversial collaborator of Jay-Z is a violation of WP:NPOV. All identifiers, for everyone including R Kelly, have now been reinstated. Thanks. Edit to "Legal issues" : As the claim made against Jay Z by Tony Buzbee is not confirmed to be true, and has been vehemently denied by Jay Z himself, given the more than heinous nature of this claim, it is unfair that it be included in his Wikipedia page until this case has further evolved to the point of fact and evidence, not just entertainment based rumours, as this weakens the validity of Wikipedia itself.
