In removing the Coren search bot notice, I just want to note that the original text is under a creative commons license. See Jamie Merisotis full biography. Copyright notice is at the bottom of the page. MatthewJenkins (talk) 15:32, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for correcting the bot. Don't forget to add the dual template next time, though. :) Theleftorium 11:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I dunno, the page also says "© 2009 Lumina Foundation", a rewrite will be necessary anyway, there's a great deal of sales-pitch language in here. Hairhorn (talk) 16:30, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The copyright notice shouldn't be a problem, as long as it doesn't include contradictory text such as "All rights reserved." As Wikipedia:Copyrights notes, "You retain copyright to materials you contribute to Wikipedia, text and media." As long as it is verified to be properly licensed for reproduction, copyright is not an issue. Promotional language is another question. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:38, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I place a copypaste template on the article. I don't see any indication of copyright or free use on the website. It sounds like there used to a copyright indicated but that the text was under a creative commons license. As I can't prove that now, I've placed the tag. Content from full biography page is under CC license and is not copyrighted. Notification is at bottom of page.KateJenkins (talk) 14:08, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

A license has been added but I don't think it's compatible with WP. It's CC-BY and not CC-BY-SA. I'm going to look into this and address this issue within the next 10-20 minutes. OlYeller21Talktome 14:47, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
The license is compatible per WP:Compatible license. I'll remove the template now. OlYeller21Talktome 14:49, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit request: outdated goal, family details, and factual corrections

[edit]

Disclosure: I am employed by Lumina Foundation and edit this article on their behalf so I'm requesting changes rather than making them directly.

Each item below gives the current text and its corrected replacement.

1. The lead states a goal the foundation retired in 2025, and an endowment figure from 2021. Please replace:

Jamie Merisotis is the current president and CEO of Lumina Foundation, a private organization in the United States that aims to increase the number of Americans holding high-quality degrees, certificates, and credentials to 60% by 2025. With an endowment of $1.6 billion, Merisotis leads the foundation's efforts towards this goal.

with:

Jamie Merisotis is the president and CEO of Lumina Foundation, a private foundation in the United States focused on education beyond high school and workforce training. In March 2025 the foundation adopted a goal that 75 percent of working-age adults in the U.S. labor force hold a college degree or other credential of value by 2040, replacing an earlier goal of 60 percent attainment by 2025, which reached 55 percent. The foundation reported net assets of $1.5 billion at the end of 2024.

The goal change is sourced to Inside Higher Ed. The financial figure comes from the foundation's most recent audited statements (Crowe LLP, opinion dated August 18, 2025): net assets without donor restrictions were $1,525,555 thousand at December 31, 2024, and investments at fair value were $1,486,230 thousand. I used net assets as the more clearly defined line item but can supply either.

2. Remove the names of the subject's children. Per WP:BLPNAME, the names of non-notable family members are generally omitted absent a reason to include them. Both are adults who no longer live in the household, and neither is a public figure. Please replace:

Merisotis lives with his wife, Colleen O'Brien, and their children, Benjamin and Elizabeth, in Indianapolis.

with:

Merisotis lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Colleen O'Brien.

3. Jamie is no longer a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. The citation comes from a 2016 news article and a membership roster archived in 2014. He is no longer a member. Please remove this sentence and both of its references:

Merisotis is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

4. Board sentence — three corrections in one. Presented as a single replacement because they overlap. Please replace:

He serves as a Governor of The Ditchley Foundation, based in the United Kingdom, and is past chairman and continuing trustee of the Council on Foundations in Washington, DC, and is a member of the board of directors for both the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership and ACT (nonprofit organization).

with:

He serves as a Governor of The Ditchley Foundation, based in the United Kingdom, and is a past chairman of the Council on Foundations in Washington, DC. He is a member of the board of directors of the CEOs of Indiana Corporate Partnership, formerly the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership.

These 3 changes are all incorporated in the above section:

 • Council on Foundations — he is a past chairman, not a continuing

trustee. The organization's own page describes him as "the former chair," and that page replaces the two 2016 news items, one of which was a bare URL.

 • ACT — he no longer serves on the board. Separately, the wikilink

labels ACT a nonprofit, which it stopped being in May 2024 when it was acquired by Nexus Capital Management and reorganized as a public benefit corporation; the Wikipedia article was retitled ACT (for-profit organization) accordingly. Removing the clause resolves both, and requires dropping "both" from "for both … and."

 • CICP — the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership adopted the

operating name "CEOs of Indiana Corporate Partnership" in March 2026. The legal name is unchanged, so the former name is retained in the text. The CICP board page is cited here because the existing bare CICP link is currently attached to the Children's Museum sentence further on; that stray reference can be dropped or left for a separate cleanup pass.

Note that the CICP board roster renders in the browser rather than in the page source, so it may not be visible to automated link checkers.

5. Publication year of America Needs Talent. The awards section calls it a 2012 book; it was published in 2015. Please change "Merisotis' 2012 book" to "Merisotis' 2015 book".
