Edit request: Update ethnic group name to Afro-Caribbean
[edit]I propose updating the ethnic group currently listed as “African” in the Jamaica section to “Afro-Caribbean.”
This term more accurately reflects the historical and cultural context of Jamaica’s population. While most Jamaicans descend from African ancestors, their identity and culture have been shaped by centuries of life in the Caribbean, including language, religion, customs, and social structures unique to the region. Using “Afro-Caribbean” aligns with scholarly sources and demographic studies that describe Caribbean populations in terms of their regional identity rather than solely by continental origin. ~2026-20676-85 (talk) 01:08, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

Add the country codes, 876 and 658 to the Jamaica page. Make sure to make 876 the primary and 658 the secondary. Geographykid3003 (talk) 12:19, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
Not done: You will need to provide the exact text that should be added to the article, together with reliable sources that support it. Day Creature (talk) 05:09, 11 July 2026 (UTC)

Add the country codes 876 and 658 to the Jamaica page. Also put primary next to 876 and secondary next to 658 (this will be under the calling code box) Geographykid3003 (talk) 12:22, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

In Geography and Environment Section; > Change "Jamaica has two cities,..." to "Jamaica has two major cities,..."
In Economy Section; "...Amongst these include the discovery of kwashiorkor, the pioneer of treatments for paediatric sickle cell anaemia and the invention of various spacecraft support systems." > Validate the latter claim of spacecraft inventions with a source. The discovery of kwashiorkor is too vague and requires a verified source such as this . Marti2204 (talk) 17:21, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Partly done: As the country has three total cities as of 2018, I implemented your first request. As for the second, I agree that the claim needs a source, but the one you provided doesn't seem to verify anything in the sentence. Can you provide any other WP:RS? DrOrinScrivello (talk) 20:33, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for implementing the changes so promptly! This might be a better source History | Caribbean Institute for Health Research (from the CAIHRS Faculty of the University of the West Indies - Jamaica) Marti2204 (talk) 20:47, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- I inserted your source as a reference. I had to modify the existing text, as the source contradicted what was in the article (it says Jamaican scientists confirmed the same symptoms previously discovered in African children suffering from kwashiorkor, not that they were responsible for the discovery of kwashiorkor) and I removed the bit about spacecraft support systems, which can be re-added if a source is found for it.
