POV

[edit]

The article is biased. Hayne wasn't a POW "tried via a British court-martial" and found guilty. He had decided that his oath of allegiance no longer applied when Greene advanced. Then he went further by "taking up arms", and was captured during a hostile act.

The source says clearly that a court of inquiry was convened to determine Hayne's status. The exact conclusion of that court needs to be found; they didn't condemn him. It appears he was considered by the commandant to have committed treason by breaking his oath. So he wasn't hanged for being an enemy soldier.

Wikipedia should be neutral. I expect the three books on the subject bend the facts sufficiently.

Rewrite needed

[edit]

I have corrected some problems with the article, and flagged others. It is tempting to nominate it for speedy deletion on grounds of bias, inaccuracy, and poor sources. However, that would take more effort than I care to apply to a bad article. Rather than fixes, it needs to be rewritten entirely using impartial sources to be worthy of inclusion in an Encyclopedia. At the moment, I can only leave that as a suggestion.
