Why did Disney buy Infoseek just to kill it?

In its day, Infoseek was bigger than Google. It should be what Google is today.

This is how Disney learned (maybe) that technology brands don't sell themselves indefinitely, especially without cultivation or research. 79.254.104.49 (talk) 16:43, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

It's true. infoseek was awesome. I only reluctantly switched to google after disney screwed with infoseek. all that being redirected to go.com with all the advertisements was unbearable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.32.189.227 (talk) 03:21, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disney bought Infoseek to expand its internet operations and create a portal for all things entertainment related. They failed in that endeavor, and rather than keep pumping money into it, decided to kill it.
