Hi all. I've tagged the bit in the last section about Americans vs. European hollies for two reasons. First, Ilex opaca is often referred to both as the American holly and the European holly (https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/ilex-opaca/) so I'm not sure they are actually different species. Secondly, if they are different species (or maybe different subspecies?) and if we're going to include that discussion at all on this page, we should probably give the scientific name for the species or subspecies we're differentiating I. opaca from. Ilex arenicola / Ilex opaca subsp. arenicola article question
[edit]Hey there, I've created a draft page for the related Florida scrub endemic taxon (Draft:Ilex arenicola) which is here regarded as Ilex opaca arenicola. I understand that Ilex arenicola already redirects here and from what I can tell the consensus is rather split on the topic, which I tried to address in the draft.
Would it be best to resubmit the article treating it at subspecies rank and adjust the redirects for Ilex arenicola and Ilex opaca arenicola to there? Unsure of the best practices in a situation like this where scientific consensus on specific taxonomy is still plastic but the organism as a distinct taxon is concrete.
