Ifeoma Nkiruka Chukwuogo (born 13 June 1992), known by the nickname Fizzy K, is a Nigerian-born filmmaker, musician, writer, and entrepreneur. She is known for writing, producing, and directing Phoenix Fury, her debut feature film which won Best Film and Best Director at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in 2024 and received three nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2025. She is the founder of Fizzy K Pictures, a film and media production company. She records music under the stage name Kirukaah.

Early life and education

Chukwuogo was born in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. She moved with her family to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she was raised and attended Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School. During her secondary school years, she was active in the performing arts, serving as head of the music club and choir in her final year and as vice president of the drama club.

She left Nigeria at the age of 16 to attend university in the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies, with a concentration in Corporate Communications, from The University of Texas at Austin, before completing a Master of Arts in Film and Media Production at the New York Film Academy, Los Angeles.

Career

Film

Chukwuogo founded Fizzy K Pictures, through which she develops and produces feature films, short films, and series. Her early work includes Bariga Sugar, a short film which won the Baobab Award for Best Short Film at Film Africa in London in 2018, and No Victors, a short documentary on the Nigerian Civil War.

She was a director on Diiche, the six-part Showmax Original Series, for which she received a nomination for Best Director at the 9th AMVCA in 2023.

Her work has screened at a number of international festivals, including the British Urban Film Festival (London), Films From The South (Oslo), New York African Film Festival (New York), Pan-African Film Festival (Los Angeles), Film Africa (London), Africa in Motion (Edinburgh), RapidLion (Johannesburg), and AFRIFF (Lagos).

Her feature film Phoenix Fury, which she wrote, produced, and directed, is a genre-blending period revenge drama set across Nigeria and Ghana, spanning three decades. The film stars Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ama K Abebrese, Uzoamaka Power, Tina Mba, and Adjetey Anang. Phoenix Fury won Best Film and Best Director at the 13th AFRIFF Globe Awards in 2024 and received three nominations at the 11th AMVCA in 2025, including Best Writer, Best Lead Actress, and Best Costume. It is scheduled for release in 2026.

Chukwuogo has worked in advertising earlier in her career, at agencies in Nigeria and Ghana, with contributions to campaigns for organizations like First Bank Nigeria, Nestlé, UNICEF, MTN Nigeria, Oando, Wema Bank, Fidelity Bank Ghana, Airtel Tigo Ghana, and Akwaaba Magic.

Chukwuogo currently resides between Toronto and Accra. She is a member of Women in Film Toronto.

Music

Recording under the stage name Kirukaah, Chukwuogo is a singer, songwriter, and composer whose work spans soul, jazz, gospel, and afro music. Her debut EP, Sanguine, was released in 2021 and is available on Spotify and Apple Music. YNaija described it as "a jazz triumph."

As a composer, her credits include the original soundtracks for Phoenix Fury and Dynamite, the latter of which won Best Soundtrack at the British Urban Film Festival in 2024. She also wrote and performed original music for an episode of the Disney Junior series Chip 'n Dale: Around the World.

Writing

Chukwuogo writes a personal publication, hosted on Substack, in which she explores themes of culture, film, womanhood, and identity.

Other ventures
