[edit]I think that the debate about naming reduced phosphorus oxy acids is related to the names used for organic derivatives vs the parent. Hypophosphorous is the parent, but compounds of the type R2P(OH)(O) are called phosphinic acids. Greenwood and Earnshaw: "Hypophosphorous acid and hypophosphites [H2PO(OH) and H2P02-] The recommended names for these compounds (phosphinic acid and phosphinates) have not yet gained wide acceptance for inorganic compounds but are generally used for organophosphorus derivatives." --Smokefoot (talk) 13:06, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
