Hybrid mode cryptography versus hybrid cryptography

In the context of post-quantum cryptography, the term "hybrid mode" is being used to described the synthesis of two public-key crypto systems, one of which is pre-quantum and one of which is post-quantum. (See, e.g., the second bullet point in the description of Kyber given here. See also the discussion here, where Dr. Markku-Juhani O. Saarinen raises this exact concern and suggests a terminology change for the so-called hybrid-mode cryptography.) I am new to Wikipedia editing but I thought that since I myself was confused by this when looking up more about this concept, I should start a discussion here and perhaps suggest adding a new page for hybrid-mode cryptography. 2211nasa (talk) 00:38, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

I must agree and I am sorry to reply to an "old" message, but we do need to either change this page to include both of these concepts, or create another one linked for disambiguation.

I never heard of the specific wording you used, to me, both of these concepts are called "hybrid cryptography" and should therefore be referenced on a single Wikipedia page, but I can be wrong. AnnoyedUnicorn (talk) 12:03, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
