Gao

[edit]

Multiple sources I've come across in the past few days identify Houssa unambiguously with Gao, which is exactly where Mungo Park says Houssa should be. None of them are great sources and I don't especially want to add them to the article. (For reference: https://archive.aramcoworld.com/issue/200502/the.river.htm ; http://www.culture-islam.fr/contrees/sahel/mungo-park-rapport-des-marchands-sur-le-pays-du-moyen-niger-jenne-massina-jinbala-tombouctou-gao-houssa-et-les-royaumes-voltaiques-1799 ; https://books.google.com/books?id=J6otAwAAQBAJ&pg=RA1-PA361&lpg=RA1-PA361#v=onepage&q&f=false ) Nonetheless, as it stands, this "Houssa is clearly a figment of the Western imagination" line the article takes doesn't exactly look tenable. Are there any people with access to better sources or a good knowledge of the region and the period who could clean this up a bit? PhainetaiMoi (talk) 05:29, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
