Promotional tone
[edit]This article is still mostly promotional. It seems impossible that there is not one critical analysis of this enterprise to be found anywhere. Additional information is needed. Traumrune (talk) 17:01, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Fraud claims
[edit]An IP added content that was a copy/paste from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2738039/Holiday-villa-fraud-thats-hit-countless-British-families-You-arrive-dream-villa-owners-never-heard-sent-cash-chillingly-plausible-conman.html
I reverted the material as a copyright violation. The material was selectively copied over, leaving phrasing here which implied the fraud was performed by Owners Direct (a website owned by HomeAway), however, that claim is not supported by the article. The article states that the culprits are hackers that hijack the email accounts of the real owners, although it also points the finger to the police for not taking action.
I've listed the link above, as it may still be a useful resource to write a section about how hackers are tricking users of the site. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 00:06, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
I made a deposit of 980 Euro for a holiday apartement but then had to cancel the reservation at an early date, when according to the contract a full refund would have to been made. But HomeAway paid the deposit out to the owner even though I had informed them of the cancellation. The owner of course sees no reason to make a refund as he's sitting legally unreachable in Kenya. So I think HomeAway was at least an accessory to fraud. Juergen, 03/10/2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.200.105.42 (talk) 11:56, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
I've made the same experience - if you're not living in the US so that you can sue them, then your money is lost. HomeAway will blame the rental owner, and the rental owner will blame HomeAway. But as a matter of fact, it's HomeAway that's charging your card, so they are holding the money in trust and should do everything to make sure you receive your refund. Well: they don't! On behalf of Expedia Group, which is the parent company of HomeAway, I'd like to submit an edit request to improve this article as part of my work at Beutler Ink. Currently the table in the Acquisitions section has a row for FeWo-direkt.de, but with no citations or content in the Notes section. I propose adding the following text and source to the Notes column, which is based on a German newspaper article:
- FeWo-direkt was established in 1997 and acquired by HomeAway in 2005.[1]
References
- ↑ "Märchenhaft wohnen: Appartementhaus Grimm's Living in Kassel eröffnet". Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine. Verlag Dierichs GmbH. Retrieved January 20, 2026.
Die Unternehmer gründeten 1997 das Ferienwohnungsportal FeWo-direkt, das sie 2005 an die US-amerikanische Firma HomeAway, den Weltmarktführer der Branche, verkauften.
[The entrepreneurs founded the holiday apartment portal FeWo-direkt in 1997, which they sold in 2005 to the US company HomeAway, the world market leader in the industry.]
I'd like to think this is a non-controversial addition, but I generally avoid editing the main space and seek assistance from others to update the article on my behalf.

Stayz
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I am back with another request for the same table in the Acquisitions section. Currently, there is a row for Stayz, but the "Notes" column is blank and the inline citation is a dead link to what I assume was a press release. I propose removing the currently used inline citation and adding the following text and sources to the "Notes" column, which is based on Wikipedia-appropriate sourcing:
- The Australia-based vacation rental service Stayz was acquired by HomeAway from Fairfax Digital in 2013. Fairfax Digital, a division of Fairfax Media, had previously acquired Stayz in 2005.[1] Stayz was founded in 2001.[2][3]

If editors consider this an improvement, I'd appreciate if someone could update the article on my behalf as I generally avoid editing the main space because of my COI. Thanks again! Inkian Jason (talk) 16:00, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
