Requested move 28 September 2026

[edit]

Holowczyn → Halowchyn – See WP:BELARUSIANNAMES. There is a de facto consensus to use BGN/PCGN romanization of Belarusian when there is no common name, hence this would be consistent with the other articles, e.g. Byalynichy. Mellk (talk) 23:04, 28 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Move to Haloŭčyn. As stated at WP:CYR: This proposal has become dormant through lack of discussion by the community. Belarusian has its own Latin alphabet, so it should be used, as Haloŭčyn is the original and proper name. --Red Winged Duck (talk) 08:57, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, we have WP:TITLECON. If there was no de facto consensus, all the other titles wouldn't follow BGN/PCGN romanization. Secondly, the "official" transliteration would be "Galowchyn" and we have WP:OFFICIAL. Mellk (talk) 10:40, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I should also note that the same argument was previously refuted here. Mellk (talk) 14:35, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The community previously discussed this, and there was no consensus for using Instruction romanization rather than BGN/PCGN. See Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Cyrillic)/Archive 3. Ultimately, we follow what reliable secondary sources use, and there is no evidence that Instruction romanization is more predominant in English-language sources today. No participants in the discussion argued strongly in favour of Łacinka either; that is probably the least-used of the three. 162 etc. (talk) 17:13, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The instruction romanization system was also abandoned not long ago. Mellk (talk) 17:17, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the most recent romanization system was introduced in 2023, after these discussions took place. 162 etc. (talk) 21:04, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
